That's a different discussion.

Obviously, the better your team, the more likely you are to get on primetime. However, there are certain NFL franchises that matter more. The Redskins are one of them. That's why, even though the Cowboys have been pretty useless as a franchise since the 90s, they get national attention.

That's why NBC and ESPN are perfectly happy to let the NFC East stay in that spot, even if there is a game with the Texans available.

Exactly. Dallas, no matter how much I or Frank hates them, is still a huge ratings draw. I tune in to see them get their nuts stomped.

The Redskins aren't comparable to the Cowboys. I agree the Cowboys have national appeal. The Redskins don't. Nobody has cared about them in almost 20 years. They never dominate any type of middle of the week media attention. They've just been like any other team pretty much.

Yeah, and I didn't mean to sound insulting to your team. Obviously they have a big fan base who is really supportive of them. But to imply they have the national appeal of the Cowboys is just flat wrong. Im sure even you would agree.

100% agree. Though I'm guessing we'll see their name penciled in a few more primetime slots next year, given the RGIII hype. I'd love it if their game at Lambeau is on MNF next year. I will be there for sure.

Yeah as long as RGIII stays healthy, I see quite a bit of primetime games and attention in their future. Similar to what Vick did for the Falcons for a few years, except RGIII is a great passing QB also and much better than Vick was.

That's kinda the point though. When teams suck, nobody gives a shit about them. Nobody has cares about the Redskins pretty much since I've been watching football. They have been an afterthought. The Ravens have been a bigger draw the past 15 years, and they've faced plenty of other teams besides the Steelers in prime time.
While I agree that the Redskins may be one of the weaker teams on my list of 10 teams that matter, you would be surprised at how often they ended up in the prime time games. My quick check has them with 3+ every year since 2006(where I stopped) except last year where they were pretty terrible and people knew they would be.

Nobody cared about the Patriots really before Brady became a star. Everybody was groaning when they made the SB against the Rams in 2001. More than almost any other sport, people care about good teams in the NFL. That's the draw.
So? Are you saying that the Patriots are going to disappear from prime time games when Brady retires?

I'm not saying those are the teams that always mattered. I'm saying they are the teams that matter now.

I had a Dallas fan tell me that all RGIII does is run. Then, about five minutes later, he dropped the 60-yard TD to Aldrick Robinson in stride. Dude shut up pretty quickly. I still can't get over the pass he threaded to Garcon in triple coverage. Alright, i'll shut up now. I know none of you what to hear about the Redskins. Ha

The NFL has so many primetime games now that even teams like Carolina and Seattle aren't really ever gonna disappear from prime time games, but when Brady retires, if the Pats arent any good after that, then yes, they will be an NFL afterthought once again. Kinda like how the Colts dominated ratings and prime time appearances for about a decade, and even with a decent team and feel good story this year they still aren't getting much attention really.

It's clear you aren't even trying to understand my point.

There are certain franchises that matter more. Put the number at 5. Put it at 10. It doesn't matter. They exist, and at least 3 of them are in the NFC East. Argue down the Redskins if you want, but the Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys all matter more than most other teams. That's why they are there.

The Packers and Bears are teams like that too.

I understand your point, and I never disagreed with it. I disagree with where you rank some of the teams in terms of national appeal and importance. The top 3 teams are clearly the Cowboys, Packers, and Steelers, and then there are a handful of teams that matter more than the average team, like the Bears, Giants, probably the Eagles, the Raiders, etc. The Raiders are a great example. They are terrible right now, so nobody gives a shit about them. If Peyton Manning had been on their team instead of the Colts though, they would have had more national appeal than pretty much any other team in the NFL during that time span.

So you basically asked me to come up with a list to argue with it?

The Bears, Giants, and Eagles are much closer to the Packers and Cowboys than they are the rest of the league. Don't overrate the Packers. They are a national brand but so are the Bears, Giants, and Eagles.

I'm not overrating the Packers. The Cowboys are ahead of them, and they are ahead of the Bears, Giants, and Eagles.

That's not what you said. The Packers are probably bigger nationally, but it's not by that significant of a margin to put the Bears into the "matter more than the average team".

It's all subjective when you get down to individual rankings, but you are crazy if you don't think the Bears are far more important than the average NFL team.

K well then this is where we disagree again. The NFL is specifically set up so that no team, including the Cowboys, is far more important than the average NFL team.

So why did you give the Cowboys, Steelers, and Packers their own special group, with the Bears in some other less important group?

Teams with the biggest "followings" in the NFL:

Cowboys are #1. Uncontested. They've recently taken the throne away from Jacksoville.

Steelers and Packers are probably close to tied for #2, IMO.

Bears, Giants, Eagles, and a couple others are on the next level down.

Because some teams are more important than others. Thats what I agree with you on. No team is far more important than any other team though. If the Jaguars were the Patriots over these past 10 years, they would be a more important franchise than the Cowboys right now, just like the Patriots are.

Sunday is judgement day for the Vikings. Lose and they are toast for the playoffs.

Speaking of "toast for the playoffs", 37 year old Charlie Batch gets the call yet again for the Steelers vs. the Ravens Sunday afternoon. Ben Roethlisberger has been ruled OUT for Pittsburgh's rematch @ Baltimore. You think Mac's buddy (NOT!) Phil Simms would want to come out of the "NFL on CBS" booth if Batch is bad at football again?

So, how far back into the " glory days" of the NFL do you have to go to find the same teams tying twice in a year?

bryce brown carries the ball as loosely as i have ever seen a RB - holding it way out from his body even when in a crowd. Not surprising he has a fumbling issues. He sure does have a burst though.
