Cutler wasnt happy after signing his early deal last time, per some guy I know who said his neck might be injured!

Regardless, sounds like Jay isn't willing to discount his deal for signing this offseason, as his deals ends in 2013.

While the Bears can tag him for $12-15 mill, something tells me Jay gives the Bears a huge F You and sits out if it comes to that.

If you look at the top QB's, I see Jay asking for $20M a year and they can go from there. Guessing he will be willing to take a little less, but 5 years for $100 mill, with 50% upfront is where I see this starting.

There's been 3-4 threads already about this. Is this a PARODY THREAD?

But back to the OP, no chance he sniffs 5/100. He's a 4/60 guy - max. He's just not a great QB, never has been. He's a slightly above average QB.

While I agree with you regarding what he SHOULD be paid...

but I would be happy betting on Jays upside for next year v his downside. I think we are seeing some of the downside right now. Imagine 2 new OL and maybe 1 more REAL WR to be a true small possession guy, or a real safety valve TE.

Say Jay has a real good year next year....I say he holds up the Bears for way more than his true value.

I don't think we should discuss this any further until we get Hub's take on it.

Hub needs to hear exactly what Jay thinks because he can't speculate on such matters.

The better Jay gets next year the more leverage he has....and finally someone takes it to the McCaskeys.

That's why they'll get it done this offseason as I said in my thread. Cuz it's a mediocre year for Cutler. He's about 15th-18th in all QB stats that matter. They know they want him locked up. Cutler would like the up front money knowing he could get a career ending injury. Bears will get him at a good price.

I agree the Bears want it locked up and of course money up front is prefered, but it's not like Jay hasnt made some good money?

He earned $24 mill from Denvers deal and will earn $50 mill from this bears deal at the end of 2013. Thats walking away away money, unless your name is Iverson, Curry or Walker!

Fact Being, the Bears need Jay more than he needs the Bears.

The Bears will raise ticket prices again and then trot out Ortman for 2014????

Of course, SHE might die by then and thats when the real stuff starts! thats when the voting shares get distributed and see how the family votes. Only need 31% of the 80% existing outstanding McStock to vote for the sale of the team to Pat Ryan.

I would also guess that it is damn close to 31% of the McCaskeys that dont get salaries from working for the Bears, so while they might get an annual for $45K or even $100K, the prospect of getting a check for $20M if you own 2% of the estimated $1Bill team...which would you do?

Heck isn't Ryan almost 80 himself? You think he wants to buy the Bears at that age?

Jay needs the Bears too. Does he really want another "Bitch his way out of town" on his resume? No. Bears are winning. And the list of teams that need QBs are in bad shape. Worse than the Bears. So they both need each other. Plus he gets what he wants here. Lovie defends and protects him and he's able to fire OCs. He's able to have his attitude without anybody in the Bears organization telling him to knock it off.

The Bears should let Jay walk & go in another direction. To say that Cutler has been a disappointment would be a big understatement.

I can not say he has been a huge disappointment, pretty much what I thought he would be...slightly better than Orton.

A smart organization would be looking to draft a QB of the future either way. Play out the contract. Franchise him. In year 3, let the 32 year old high priced vet walk and start your QB of the future. I, of course, have no hope that they can draft a QB of the future nor develop him.

Imagine how testy Cutler would be if he had competition.

Virginia McCaskey should throw her dirty diaper in his face if he asks for $20M a year. I wouldn't offer Cutler a contract unless he was willing to take around $8-10M a year. Even that is probably overpaying considering what his production has been. Drafting a QB in the first few rounds next season should be a priority. His value around the league isn't what some around here may believe. I'm sure Washington is excited they didn't get him now. RGIII is already better than him and he doesn't have any real talent in Washington.

You trade him to either Arizona, NYJ, KC, or Jacksonville to get picks. Then sign Alex Smith to a 3 yr deal worth less money.

There isn't a huge difference between Orton and Alex Smith. Does Alex Smith have a strong enough arm for the Chicago wind? He wouldn't be a bad stop gap QB. Cutler still has a season and a half to earn his next contract.

Imagine how pissy he'd be if they franchised him. He'd hold out and demand a trade. It won't come to that. Hell, he'd be pissy if he had to go into his last year without an extension.

GD, I know you don't think so, but 30 isn't old for a QB. Cutler is the QB now and for the future. If healthy, he's good for 5-7 years. I know that's a big "If" but it's a big "If" for all QBs.

Not really, all the great quarterbacks know how to slide. They realize the extra 2 yards isn't worth the injury risk. Also, they don't have a penchant for throwing picks that result in themselves or teammates getting injured.

I know. Maybe he's a little bit of a higher risk. But he hasn't really gotten hurt for not sliding. He's a big guy and he know how to lower his shoulder against safetys and DBs. He gives it more than he takes it a lot of times. Hell, he's bigger than most secondary guys. He slides when he sees LBs lining him up. I've never seen him take a horrible shot after he runs. Most of his big hits are in the pocket and he pretty much always gets up. Head shots are different. But head shots in the pocket can happen to any QB.

Peyton Manning never runs and he got a horrible neck injury.

You had me until the end. Alfred Morris has turned out to be a really good back. Moss has been rejuvinated. Garcon was a hot commodity last off season. Fred Davis is an upper tier tight end. The Redskins have some playmakers.

Cutler ran a lot in his Denver days but he really doesn't take off as much as you might think. Last year only 18 rushes all year. This year he's at 25 but that's cuz the line has been so damn bad he's just taking off to avoid sacks. I'll bet at least half of those rushing attempts are cuz the pocket collapsed as soon as the ball was snapped. He's really not a running QB - not like Newton, RG3 or Vick in his day.

I'm asking this out of ignorance: What is the recent history in the NFL of QB's being franchised, and it working out well for the team?

I think the media might be missing out on this. Phil Emery is not the guy who invested his reputation and two first-round picks in Cutler. We don't really know his opinion of the guy. A trade is not an impossible scenario at all.

Peyton Manning

I thought Brees and Manning signed huge deals?

edit - I meant franchised and played the season under that tag, as is being suggested for Cutler.

In which case, your list is Cassel and Vick. :puker:

Moss is old and hasn't had a Santana Moss type of season. Fred Davis has been out since about Week 3. Garcon is just a guy that got paid because he played with Peyton Manning. I'll agree Morris has been a surprise but I wouldn't rank him in the top 15 of NFL running backs.
