Jereme Richmond gets three-day pass for Philadelphia tryout
Former high school basketball standout Jereme Richmond wiped tears of relief from his eyes as he exited a courtroom this morning after a judge granted him a three-day pass to for a basketball tryout in Philadelphia.

Richmond, 20, of Waukegan, was placed on a 24-hour, home-bound curfew in October after testing positive for marijuana while on probation after pleading guilty in January to unlawful use of a weapon.

“He would be going for a tryout with certain athletic teams,” Richmond’s attorney, Lawrence Wade, told Judge John Phillips, adding that all of the tryouts would be in the Philadelphia area at one specific facility between Dec. 8 and 10.

Wade said he did not know what type of basketball teams Richmond would be trying out for.

Richmond was a top Illinois high school player when he entered the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, but he left after his freshman season in an unsuccessful NBA draft bid. He was arrested in August 2011 in Waukegan and accused of punching his ex-girlfriend and threatening her family with a gun. After his guilty plea on the weapons charge, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation. He has been briefly jailed twice for probation violations, first in October 2011 and again last month after failing a drug test, authorities said.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Jim Newman told Phillips that Richmond has passed all drug and alcohol tests since the failed test in October and has attended domestic violence classes and addiction counseling. Newman said he did not object to Richmond attending the tryouts.

Phillips agreed after imposing several conditions, including that Richmond must be tested for drugs and alcohol before he leaves and upon his return and must speak to his probation officer before he leaves and while he is there.

Wade also asked Phillips to allow Richmond to leave his home for several hours a day to train at a local gym prior to the tryouts. Phillips allowed him three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon.

“Good luck to you, but if you don’t follow all of these conditions I’m not going to be doing this again,” Phillips said.

So here's a young man with a history of fucking up, who has an opportunity to try out for a team and possibly do something productive for once, and you're hoping he goes to jail. I think you misunderstand me. First, i don't complain about shit especially here (see low post count). My only point is if he is in fact supposed to be in jail then wait until he is done then get on with his life and opportunities. All I am saying is no special treatment.

Get off your pedestal. Playing basketball for a living is hardly a trade. If his only skill is bouncing a ball and being tall, then he has lots of problems.
