Not surprised really, but it is strange to see him launched the year following the perfecto.

Sox cut ties with Humber...

The Chicago White Sox officially severed ties Friday with pitcher Philip Humber, who threw a perfect game on April 21, and left-handed hitting corner infielder Dan Johnson.

Humber was claimed on waivers by Houston, and Johnson was not tendered a contract. In addition, minor league pitcher Anthony Carter also wasn’t tendered a contract.

Johnson and Carter now become free agents. The transactions also open three spots on the Sox’s 40-man roster.

Humber, 29, never regained his form during the first half of the 2011 season, when he had an 8-5 record and 3.10 ERA. Humber was 5-5 with a 6.44 ERA in 2012, but he went winless at home in over his final 15 home starts.

Humber threw the 21st perfect game in major league history and the third in franchise history at Seattle, needing only 96 pitches. But Humber struggled from inconsistency and a right elbow flexor strain that sidelined him for a month and eventually knocked him out of the rotation.

Johnson, 33, hit 28 home runs and drove in 85 runs at Triple-A Charlotte but wasn’t promoted until Sept. 1. He hit three home runs in the final game of the Sox’s season at Cleveland but was saddled behind Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn at first base and wasn’t perceived by the Sox as a third base candidate.

Carter, 26, spent seven seasons in the Sox’s organization. He was 4-6 with a 4.60 ERA in 39 appearances with Triple-A Charlotte last season. He is currently playing for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League

The moves allow the Sox to sign a free agent or acquire a player without needing to take a player off the 40-man roster.

He's been dead for about 10 years now.

If he was on the Cubs, he'd be given a 10 yr. extension after the Perfect game.

He should have concentrated on feeding the new baby for life rather than being there for its birth.

Philip Humber will actually be headed home with the Astros. If I'm not mistaken, he pitched close to home at Rice University, for what that's worth.

I'll always remember his 97th best pitched game of all time fondly.

I wonder if Jerry has put an unsigned personal services contract in Humber's desk for when he retires?

I loved Chuck McElroy. That bullpen tandem with him and Heathcliff Slocumb was a thing.

I want big black studs in my bullpen! Not tiny little Chinamen!

I actually just looked up Chuck McElroy to see if he is still alive, after that RIP. He is.

Probably the first time he has ever been googled.
