According to a source close to Northern Illinois coach Dave Doeren, he is no longer a candidate for #Purdue job.

Hmmm........either Doren's sources are wrong or Brick's are.

Maybe he's headed to Champaign. What does bernstein's guy say?

I'm gonna have to score this one 35-10 in Brick's favor, due in large part to spanky's refusal to acknowledge being wrong about the 53 win number, and the fact he continued arguing with BRick after claiming he was done with the thread/topic(Brick can do that to the best of us however.)

Anyway I think pot is totally harmless and caffeine is worse for you.

As I said before, the Butch Jones stuff through everything up in the air. They are all in on him, even willing to take the chance that they lose Doeren with another MAC coach as a solid backup plan.

Makes sense with the timing of this. Either Doeren is moving forward with an SEC team or Purdue is going hard after Butch Jones. It's likely both, with Doeren now showing up as a possibility at Auburn.

I saw an interesting name on twitter yesterday:

Biography
Randy Fichtner is in his second season coaching the Steelers’ quarterbacks after spending three seasons as the team’s wide receivers coach. He joined the Steelers after serving the previous six seasons at the University of Memphis. Fichtner was hired by Mike Tomlin on Jan. 29, 2007.

Fichtner’s receiving core had an excellent season in 2008 as Ward topped 1,000 yards (1,043) for the fifth time in his career, and Holmes was named MVP of Super Bowl XLIII after catching nine passes for 131 yards (14.6 avg.) including the gamewinning touchdown reception with 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Under the tutelage of Fichtner, Ward and Holmes matched their reception total from 2006 (123), while increasing their TD catches from eight in 2006 to 15 in 2007.

Fichtner, who instituted the spread offense at Memphis, was an integral part of the Tiger football team for six years. He was hired in 2001 to serve as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and his offense re-wrote the Memphis record book for six seasons.

In 2004, All-American running back in DeAngelo Williams led an offense that finished the year ranked ninth nationally in total offense and 10th in the nation in scoring. Fichtner was a part of unprecedented offensive success at Memphis that also contributed to the Tigers playing in three straight bowl games from 2003-05.

The 2002 squad set a record for total offense with 4,258 yards, and then the 2003 team shattered that mark with 5,779 yards of total offense. In 2004, the Tigers amassed 5,524 yards of total offense to rank second all-time. The 2004 Tigers also set school records in points scored with 430 and in passing touchdowns with 25. Fichtner was no stranger to Memphis when he joined the staff in 2001. He had previously served as an assistant for the Tigers. Prior to his second stint at Memphis, Fichtner spent four years (1997-2000) at Arkansas State University. He arrived in Jonesboro as the quarterback coach in the spring of 1997 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in August of 1997.

During his tenure with the Indians, Fichtner worked with quarterback Cleo Lemon, who set virtually every Arkansas State passing and total offense record.

Prior to joining the staff at Arkansas State, Fichtner spent three years at his alma mater, Purdue, serving as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator from 1994-96. The Cleveland, Ohio, native originally went to Memphis in the fall of 1990 and coached the Tiger receivers and quarterbacks for four seasons. During his stay at Memphis, Fichtner worked with St. Louis Rams All-Pro wide receiver Isaac Bruce.

Fichtner, 46, worked as a student assistant and graduate assistant at Purdue (1985- 86) and at Michigan (1986-87), before serving as a volunteer coach at Southern California in 1988. He landed his first full-time position in 1989 as the tight ends coach at UNLV and worked for the Rebels for one season before coming to Memphis. Fichtner graduated from Purdue in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in health promotion.

He is married to the former Jennifer Parker of Covington, Tenn., and the couple has three children: a son, Nathaniel Ross (15), and daughters, Shelby Brooke (16) and Kirby Lynn (11).

From what I gather the Wisconsin fanbase hates Bielema. I don't pay that much attention to them but I hear constant bitching about him and his game management. I watched the last 2 overtime games and his play calling at the end was awful. I doubt Alvarez would ever fire his own guy but the fans seem to not like him at all.

Ding!

That's a really logical fit too. It's probably a better fit than the powerhouse school I root for.

For those who think Dave Doeren might be the next HC at Illinois, think again. Bernsy's "guy" at Illinois says that Tim Beckman might be back for another season of really bad Illini football next fall.

Bernstein subtly confirmed that they would fire Beckman for Doeren.

Good, I do not want to be distracted thinking about how good the Illini could be this coming season.

Wouldn't it be a smarter move for Doeren to take say the Cinci job when it opens up after Jones leaves sometime in the next few weeks? Its not a huge step but it is one that could push him to a much better job than Illinois and its a place he should be able to continue his and their success at.

Now this is a vote of confidence.

All in on Butch Jones, offering him a total pool of $4.5 million for coaching salaries. This would be at least double what Hope was getting.

Jones supposedly met with Purdue officials last Sunday, and then on Monday Doeren said he was not a candidate for the Purdue job which is a good sign.

The big concern now is Tennessee, though they have bigger targets in mind.

According to Collegefootballtalk.com, if you want to wager on it, Jones isn't on the list for Tennesee.

If Jones does go to Purdue, is that a guy that will get the fanbase excited to buy tickets or have to win first.

So was Purdue not really interested in DD? or were they not willing to pay as much as NC State?

Really? An ACC job in this current conference situation is better?

I don't know. If anything they seem about equal to me.

It comes down to the facilities. I think BRick has mentioned here that Purdue needs to comitt considerable money to getting their facilities better.
