Lincoln-Way East QB now switching from NIU to Northwestern.

Over NIU?

Yeah, he's gonna make 4.5x what he was making at NIU.

The report on the Score website said Purdue and Illinois were also interested and he chose NC State.

Take the money out of the equation. The ACC sucks as a football conference. NC State is terrible when it comes to playing football. To me, it's like taking the Arkansas job. Sure you're in the SEC, but you're just going to get mauled by the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida week in, week out. At NC State, you're losing a regional recruiting battle to Clemson, North Carolina, and South Carolina. At a bare minimum, at NIU, you can steal decent recruits from Illinois and Northwestern (not to mention, compete every year).

But NC State certainly isn't a better job than any school in the Big Ten.

Please tell me you don't believe this.

A hot young coach with Big Ten/midwest roots just chose it over 2 other Big Ten jobs.

I think TO has lost a couple zeros in recent years.

Of course I believe it. Because it's true. Lots of dopes make lots of silly decisions all the time. He'll be a forgotten guy in a year. But he'll have his money. Good for him. He probably has to wash the basketball coach's car as part of his deal.

You have a strange view of the Big Ten. You seem to believe it's the equal of the MAC or something. The truth is, if NIU had actually beaten Iowa, you'd have crowed like it was the greatest event in history. And you know what? For NIU it might have been. For any team in the Big Ten it would just be a decent win.

You have a strange view of the Big Ten. You seem to think every coaching job (even the bottom ones) are better than any other conference.
I'll gladly sit back and let you show me where I've ever said the the MAC is equal to the Big Ten. Take your time.

You should pay attention around here more. Or maybe pay attention to sports in general more. Or maybe just post crazy things less.

Strange decision. It's not as good of a job as Purdue or Illinois. But, even if he didn't want those, he'd roll next year at NIU and have his pick at better jobs than a middling school in a dying football conference.

Will they still let him coach in the Orange Bowl?

I'll gladly sit back and let you show me where I've ever said that every Big Ten coaching job is better than any one in any other conference. Since you obviously didn't understand, I'll say it again. Every job in the Big Ten is better than the NC State job.

You're the guy who should pay more attention to sports. You're living in a fantasy world where you actually believe that the best season in NIU's history means that they could compete in the Big Ten year in and year out. Their best team ever couldn't even beat a lousy Iowa team, for God's sake. Root for your team. That's fine. But I think anyone who vaguely follows college football is well aware who is posting the crazy thoughts.

I understood what you were saying. You're wrong. This is a better job than the one NIU's last coach left for.

I'll let you do your own fact checking on this ridiculously incorrect paragraph. It's laughable.

It's not a worse job than Purdue or Illinois. But I agree with you that I think he could have stayed at NIU for one more year with Lynch set at QB and even better jobs would have opened up.

You may want to look at how the coaching search at Illinois went last year, in addition to what happened this year, and then re-evaluate how good of a coaching job Illinois is. And Illinois has better facilities than Purdue, so there's that.

Stop talking about facilities. When the Rams were training in Macomb they built state of the art facilities at Western Illinois. That doesn't make it a better job than Purdue.

You've paid attention around here (so you say). I've made it very clear what makes a job more desire-able than others. There are 4 things, give or take.

Why don't you tell me what makes every single Big Ten job better for a prospective coaching candidate? It was your proclamation, not mine.

You're right. Facilities don't matter. That's why every school spends millions and millions of $$$ to keep them up.

He didn't choose it over Purdue. Purdue is going all in on Butch Jones offering him $2 million plus.

In fact, when it came out on Monday that Doeren was no longer a candidate, it was because Butch Jones is the guy.

Now, things can fall apart, but Jones was always #1.

It's not that facilities don't matter. It's that facilities don't make a second rate football school in a third rate football conference better than the Purdue job. But you can  all you want since I'm done being spankied for today. Why don't you go spanky Irish Boy some more? I was actually enjoying that.

You make the statement, then can't back it up with any reasons at all. I think there is probably a reason for that.
What makes every single coaching job in the big ten better than NC State (or similar school) for a potential candidate?

Here I'll help you start your list:

Facilities

Hell no.

The only thing that changed is that Jones is far more interested than I thought.

 In a single post you said it was a "done deal" with Doeren, but it may be somebody else.

If somebody else did that, you would be all over them.

No. The Big Ten is a far more important football conference than the ACC. I don't give a fuck if they built the Taj Mahal of weight rooms down in Raleigh, it's not going to magically transform it into a better place to coach football than Purdue or Minnesota. It isn't that hard to understand.
Big Ten > ACC > MAC
Got it now?
