I texted a guy who works with us if he thought I handled it right. He used to manage a room like this til our company bought his. He said he couldnt believe the mgr didn't step in and their lucky I didn't file a complaint or have him arrested for assault

Sounds like something you will have to face again with him. Or someone else will.

JORR, this was my point. I didn't say RPB should get the guy fired. The manager should have stepped in and taken care of the situation. This isn't a pussification of America situation. This guy will go off again, and say I'm sorry again. There's a difference between an industry having slightly different employee interaction standards, and outright incompetence.

Hopefully you had a car allowance.

i think any time you are faced with this situation and use the retort "who the fuck do you think you are talking to?" to an angry co-worker, you desire to escalate the situation, not calm it down. at that point you lowered yourself to his level and you both sounded foolish. if i heard colleagues of mine resolving differences like this at work i would think they were both clowns.

If RPB was a black chick, that guy would be in the hospital right now.

Fair enough, but up to that point I was calm. When he yelled an order at me. I should have been calmer I guess but when a co worker who has no power over you tells you to do something by screaming it....Its hard to remain totally calm....you're right though

Its kinda weird because were all floor guys still working in a floor type setting (We have a closed door room) that happens to be in an office. I can at least refrain from screaming like an idiot

And be honest, he's Italian.

You knew you from the start that you weren't in any real danger

About 5 years ago I was running a sales meeting with my sales team, there were about 40 people at this meeting from the field & corporate. We had a fairly new Marketing Director who was a in way over his head & everyone knew it. He made a lot of commitments & promises that never panned out. During his presentation my guys were grilling him & he had no answers. During the presentation following him, one of my sales guys made a remark about one of the Marketing Product Managers, & while I am standing in the back of the room, the Marketing Director grabs me by the arm & says "come with me". We leave the room, & he goes berserk out in the hallway & proceeds to push me against the wall repeatedly while he is shaking his finger in my face & yelling at me because he is mad that my guys are going after him & his people. Keep in mind that this guy is about 5'5" & 250 LBS, & I am 6' & 225. I remained cool as a cucumber & told him that this would end bad for him if he continued. I almost started laughing at one point. I knew that this clown was writing his ticket out.
I called HR & the next day I had to drive from St. Louis to Milwaukee for a meeting at Corporate. I got drilled by HR & corporate management for a couple of hours. Luckily the other guy admitted that he had lost it & was not provoked. He had over 30 years with the company & was terminated immediately. A few Months later he sent me a letter of apology.

Running to HR. Just another step on the road toward the pussification of America.

I know. Driving 600 miles to resolve something that could have been settled on the spot with broken-off chair legs sounds like something out of a Sensitivity Training Seminar.

Exactly. Look at the difference in the way the traders handled their dispute as compared to the corporate pansyism detailed above. There's a reason people write books and make movies romanticizing the lives of those masters of the markets. Work hard, play hard. Chicago, the city of big shoulders. Fortunes made and fortunes lost in the blink of an eye. Rogers Park Bryan didn't run whining to HR like a little bitch. He handled his business and cooler heads prevailed. Men being men. It seems like the popular viewpoint in this forum is that someone should be fired. I'm telling the teacher. There's nothing wrong with a couple guys airing their opinions with authority. The hive listens to the bee that dances the hardest.

There were 40 people in this meeting who all knew exactly what happened, including the President of the company. It was a quite a thing. I was told to contact HR. People get what they deserve, & this incompetent fuck got his. Funny thing is, is that he was the harmless quiet guy who no one ever expected to go berserk like he did. But when a person is over promoted & given responsibilities beyond their level of competence, eventually they crack.

Forget about it RPB. This isn't a grade school playground. You have much more important things that you are working for to let some coked up trader egg you into a fight.
