Agreed, just like most of the wins this year weren't because of the play of Cutler.

You have become the champion of "All he does is win" for Cutler. You need to own it when he doesn't win if that is what you are rolling with.

Now, if you want to make a "Judge him on his performance" argument, then let's do it. He was good in that game. He wasn't great. Just don't look past his bad or average games if he wins.

That's the problem though. When the Bears win with Cutler having below average results everyone just says "All he does is win!". You can't have it both ways. If this loss isn't on Cutler, then many of his wins aren't on Cutler either.

Yep.

You need to stop presuming what other peoples' points are and to stop telling me what to own.

All he does is win is not my point, and it hasn't been for sometime. My point is that there are a lot of other problems on this team other than inconsistent QB play. You and Nas (among others) have been beating the same drum forever. You have some valid points. You and Nas refuse to recognize anything other than "cutler needs to play better."

Forte got his money and has been garbage this year. I don't care if he is not 100% because at this point in the NFL season very very few players are at 100%. The Tight ends has been bad. Hester is a gimmick WR and nothing more, while Weems is a special teamer playing WR. Neither have done anything this year. Earl Bennet got his $ and his played poorly the few times he has been active this year. The Oline is a mess and has been almost all season. The DLine was not good yesterday and could not finish a team off yesterday.

There are problems on the team. Sometimes the QB is a problem. A lot of the times this year its not been a problem. Yesterday was one of those times. You refuse to recognize that for whatever reason.

How many times this season have you posted what the Bears record is to defend Cutler? I remember it happening a lot.

Well, sorry for not doing cartwheels because Cutler put up above average numbers.

As a season though, this all balances out, and we can look at the numbers and see that his play just hasn't been good enough. This time it was a loss. Many other times it was a win.

You still haven't acknowledged my point. Maybe a New Yorker just cannot understand something so simple.

Your point seems to be that there are other problems with the team.

I don't know when I said Cutler was the only problem. I just see all these other QB's, many of whom I would not call elite, and many of whom do not have better teams around them, outperforming Cutler.

If we view Cutler as a game manager, then he's not to blame. If we view him as a QB who helps win us games, his production is not doing so.

Why you do NOT sign Cutler to an extension:

This team has a very short window to win, and it is closing fast. They have to win by the end of next season, as Urlacher will most certainly be done, Peanut, Briggs, Peppers are on the decline and may be gone by then, and the other veterans are also getting older and/or are bad. The offense still needs a line, a receiver or two, a TE, and a running back if Forte is regressing. The defense will need to replace several keys. Add to that the fact that Lovie is not Emery's "guy" and could very well be gone, and I see this team getting blowed up after 2013. Under that scenario, it makes absolutely no sense to give any kind of money up front to Cutler just to win 4-6 games for the next two or three years.

The offense scoring 14 points before Cutler's 50 yard strike to Marshall in triple coverage had something to do with the Bears being in that position. The Seahawks didn't play great defense and the Bears generally had time to pass yesterday.

IMO if the offense scored 20 points the Bears would win most games with their defense. Tice and his play calling may be to blame for some of it but the majority of the blame is on the players for not executing.

Bennett's dropped TD and Lovie not kicking the FG left 10 points on the field.

Bennett doesn't score on that play, he was already falling down. The Bears got a gift on their first touchdown drive too. The Lovie call was the right one to make, but Tice made a terrible play call. He called the play to the side of a guy playing his first game at G. That's just stupid.

The Bears had a 4 point lead and forced a team with a rookie QB to go 97 yards with less than 3 minutes to go in the game. The D couldn't get it done.

Then after a miracle pass, the D allows an 80 yard TD drive in overtime. Even if they hold to a FG the Bears still have a chance to win.

I agree the defense ultimately is to blame for the defeat. I was just pointing out that a little more production from the offense and we're not even having this debate. The defense has played great all season and it shouldn't be unreasonable to expect the offense to score 20 points especially when they helped set up the first touchdown. How many 70+ touchdown drives has the offense had this season?

They don't have to be. They show flashes of what they should be but there's no consistency.

I agree. Matt Forte and his 3 YPC is not getting it done. The TE's are brutal and anytime a WR that is not wearing #15 wants to step up and make a play that would be great.

I would argue that Bennett is usually productive when he's on the field. Problem is he isn't usually on the field.

Not this year. 23 receptions and just 43 targets. 250 yards 1 TD.

Doug and OB made a good point about not having a fullback. the tight ends are horrific, why do you need three of them and why not have a fullback for short yardage situations?

If the Bears insist on using Rodriguez at fullback and not at TE, the Bears could still use his pass receiving skills. Play action to the RB and toss to Rodriguez in the flat. The 49ers with Montana used to make a living when Rathman or Craig were the fullbacks. Seems like an easy play to run. Or have both backs flare out of the backfield.

I will send Tice a DVD of some 49er games from back in the day, maybe he can get some ideas.

Quote:
With a year left on a five-year deal that pays $8.47 million in 2013, Cutler said he'd consider taking a "hometown discount" to remain with the Bears because less money in a contract would mean more flexibility for the team in its efforts to acquire talent.

"I'm not gonna try to break the bank," Cutler said on ESPN 1000's "The Jay Cutler Show."

The discussion came as a result of Cutler's co-host Tom Waddle suggesting the quarterback take a veteran-minimum type of salary in his new deal.

"What kind of discount we talkin'?" Cutler asked.

Waddle replied, "50 percent off."

"Ah, c'mon," Cutler said, laughing. "We can talk like 5 or 10 (percent off), but 50? This isn't a going-out-of-business sale."

After the jokes, Cutler revealed he's thought about taking less money in a new deal because as a seven-year veteran, the quarterback has already earned plenty of money.

"I want to be on a successful team, and I know that paying one or two or three players premium (salaries) hurts your chances of being able to bring in extra talent," Cutler said. "So when we get there, we'll figure it out."

Cutler said he and receiver Brandon Marshall discussed how the desire to win eventually takes precedence over salary demands. Cutler and Marshall connected 10 times for 165 yards Sunday in the club's overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Apparently Cutler wants to ensure he and Marshall remain together for years to come.

"I don't think I should even be saying stuff like this. I'm killing myself right now," Cutler joked. "I'm breaking the bank. Let's go back; rewind. (Agent) Bus (Cook) is gonna text me (saying), 'What are you doing right now?'"

According to a source close to Cutler, the sides haven't even started preliminary discussions on a new contract for the quarterback. General manager Phil Emery said in October that the team's preference is to engage in negotiations during the offseason.

Cutler would also prefer to discuss a new contract at the end of the season as opposed to now.

"You get to a point in your career I think it's not even about money," Cutler said. "You're secure. You want to win Super Bowls."

That's good news Frank. Sounds like Cutler will sign a 4-5 year extension.

He sounds rightfully concerned that the Bears may go another direction if he's too expensive.

He said 5-10%. So if he thinks he's worth 5/80 or 5/100 ( ), that means he's still gonna want at least 5/70. Sounds like Frank and I will both be happy if he signs a 5/70 extension.

No. I didn't read it that way. He might be a little nervous that it won't happen his offseason and he'll play out his deal. What he wants is that next signing bonus knowing he's had a few concussions. That's why he wants it done this offseason.

The price is pretty much set. He's not a top 5 QB. He's also not a bottom 15 QB. It's pretty much gonna be a 4 years extension worth about 65-70 million. The signing bonus will be the issue. He probably wants 20 million guarenteed. Bears will want it around 12 million. It will end up being 17 or so. Something like that. It will get done in the offseason for sure.

Where are you getting $14M-$15M/year? At most, his contract will be 4/$50M.

No. Matt Flynn signed with the Seahawks for 26 million over 3 years. That's almost a 9 million a year average for a guy with 1 career start. So Cutler is worth about 14- 15 million. C'mon. Understand the NFL and what they pay QBs
