Once again, the score was meaningless. If they had gone for a TD, they could have recovered, then tried to kick a 78 yard FG into the wind. That wasn't going to happen, plus, they wouldn't be able to get within one score of their archnemesis. So they kicked a FG to try for a physically impossible hail mary.

What is with you and the weather? This game, the Wrigley/Meat game......sheeeesh.

There was not a gale-force wind happening that day. The FG you are bitching about was 48-yds, INTO THE MIGHTY WIND!!!!!!!! Wow, if a kicker can kick that far off the ground, there is no way a QB can throw that far. I mean, right?

Recover the on-side kick at @50 yd. line, with 15 seconds left. The a short completion on the sideline, possibly two, then a reasonable-length throw into the endzone....yeah, that never happens.

Are you serious right now?

You can't advance an onsides kick. Won't get it past the 40. 42 at most.

And time is expired.

Harnish threw a pass the same direction to end the first half. It went about 50 yards. He doesn't have the arm strength.

The Ok. St. coach kicked a FG to cut the lead to 6 with less than a minute left tonight against OU. What an idiot. He was probably only doing it for bragging rights so that he can say that they lost by less.

There was almost a full minute left, and it was fourth down.

NIU kicked on third down, with 19 seconds left. That's only enough time to recover an onside kick (which you cannot advance), then throw a hail mary. 60 yards. Directly into the wind.

I really don't see a problem with what NIU did. You need two scores in under 30 seconds. They got the first won, didn't get the second.

Plus maybe one of the other three qb's has a stronger arm than Harnish?

I'm not arguing the physics of where an onside kick is recovered, when kicked from the 30 yd line in a bounding forward direction, but let's just say it doesn't usually occur at the 40. Of course, I'm new to college football and you're not.

The weather was not a factor that day. Keep trying.

The only thing I would disagree with NIU_Huskie about is that NIU probably would not be favored against NU in Evanston if they met right now.

So...NIU wouldn't be favored against Northwestern without Northwestern's best player, and NIU lost to Illinois, but the thought that NIU is the third best team in Illinois is eye-rollingly laughable?

Let's try this again (read the bold part slower this time so you can grasp it):

Only one of the the three football teams in the state will be ranked in the top 25 starting tomorrow, but you're right IB, they're the worst of the three.

You seriously think being ranked in the top 25 means your team is one of the best 25 teams in college football? I'd act like you didn't believe that if you want to not sound like you're a homer grasping at straws. Like IB said, you think you're better than a non-ranked Florida?

Sagarin and Phill Steele Power ratings favor NIU.

In the last 5 games, Illinois has scored more points than any 5 game stretch in the UofI's history and that's against Big Ten competition.

If Illinois played NIU again tomorrow, they'd score 50 points and NIU would be lucky to get 25.

That's great, but look at the defenses you scored all those points on. Teams 4-11 in the little sisters of the big ten say nothing but mediocrity to bad.

Illinois is a one-dimensional team.

No, like I said, it makes them currently the best team in the state. Try to keep up.

If the ranking doesn't quantify who is best out of all 117 or however many D1 teams there are it sure doesn't show who is best in Illinois either.

This is the best you've got? I expected some of your 'A' material for this momentous occasion.

Sorry for not having tons of time to spend posting on this message board.

If i was on the North American continent at the time of the Orange Bowl i would be there. Instead, i purchased tickets through NIU to help since i can't be there in person.
