I think we all agree that charity sucks, unless it's to someone who plays football or basketball for your entertainment. However, it seems like I am constantly bombarded with requests to give up the money that I rightfully earned based solely on the fact that I worked harder than them.

What are the good charities? Where does your money go? Do you prefer to waste it on animals, people, or "awareness" related charities?

I've found it to be more rewarding to donate time rather than money. Not everyone has the time to do it though. FWIW, if I'm giving money, I'd rather give it directly to certain institutions like homeless shelters or groups that directly help kids.

Well, As you all know I am involved with the Salvation Army. Not only bellringing but I also attend Church there and donate my time to the food Pantry and Mobile soup Kitchen.
Salvation Army is not a Charity per say but a Religious organization that does a ton of charity work around the world. All the money collected from the red kettles stays with the local Corps,so it is used for stuff like after school programs for kids, trips,summer camp ,They also operate Drug/Alcohol rehab centers called Arcs. They are a very worthy organization .
The other good ones to give to that spend most of the money on the works they say they do are Ronald McDonald House,Susan G Koman and Make a wish.

Steer very clear of both Goodwill and Red Cross. They spend in the case of Red Cross more on admin and non useful expenses than any other org. Good will is a joke. The owner only thing he does for the "Goodwill" is employ people at minimum wage part time. He does nothing charitable with the money he gets.
I also give money to pet shelters.

I donate annually to St. Jude's and usually throw $50 towards a friend if he/she is running/walking/yada yada for charity.

PNA isn't a charity. I don't even believe it is a not for profit. They sell insurance.

I would say the most worthy polish based charity organization is the Polish American Association (formerly Polish Welfare Association). Despite the name they do not limit their charity. They offer assistance in immigration, AA, career services, food pantry and a host of other social welfare activities.

Donate house hold items and clothes to good will. I also like to donate canned food to food drives. They also had something through our church that got the kids involved with a baby shower for less fortunate people by donating clothing or care items.
Our dance school had a huge clothing and personal care drive for kids of another dance school that was obliterated in the hurricane.

Also If I have spare change it goes into the kettle, HRH even likes to do that. Even send a few bucks to Misericordia.

HRH has also danced at Misericordia for their family days, and that is what she likes the most. I think going to nursing homes or helping out other service organizations by coming and dancing for them is what she likes the best, especially when they get people up to teach them the jig or another dance. She knows that some of those people always don't have visitors and loves seeing the smiles on the faces of the residents and talking to them.
