Considering how bad college football was across the country except for the SEC, who really cares who is in the BCS bowls? Good for NIU for getting there. I would rather see them get a chance than watch 3rd place Wisconsin play in the Rose Bowl.

The thing that I find ridiculous is the arrogance of the belief that no mid-major could ever be better than Oklahoma or Nebraska. I'll grant you that in this case I don't believe NIU is, but that doesn't matter. If they were, they may well have the same damn record they do now. They earned their spot. Just like the fact that there may be four teams that are "better" than Notre Dame doesn't mean that the Irish shouldn't be in the championship game. They played the games and they got there. That's how it's decided. Not by someone like dan bernstein or Kirk Herbstreit declaring who is best. And thank God.

Sports would be dull & boring without underdogs upsetting favorites & Cinderella stories. What makes the NCAA Basketball tournament great is the upsets & Cinderella stories. A 12 seed beating a 5, & teams like Butler making it to the championship game. Upsets & Cinderella stories are good for sports & certainly make them more interesting.

Not when ESPN has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in coverage of these BCS games.

Fuck ESPN. If having to show an NIU game hurts them, it's even better.

I'm not saying I agree with them, but I think this is a major reason for some at ESPN being butthurt over this. It's all about ratings. Most people at NIU don't give a shit about the football team. I went to my first game there a couple weeks ago, and I graduated in 2006. The stadium was half empty, and that game was deciding who was going to the conference championship game, and it was against their biggest rival, and it was televised on National TV. If that can't generate any interest, then nothing will.

No one at NIU cares about anything; the whole city of DeKalb is just a crater of apathetic despair

The realistic side of the complaint is this:

NIU lost to a 4-8 Iowa team.
NIU had to come from behind to beat a 1-11 Kansas team.

Had Kent State made it they would have been able to lean on a win over 9-3 Rutgers.
