No. I didn't read it that way. He might be a little nervous that it won't happen his offseason and he'll play out his deal. What he wants is that next signing bonus knowing he's had a few concussions. That's why he wants it done this offseason.

The price is pretty much set. He's not a top 5 QB. He's also not a bottom 15 QB. It's pretty much gonna be a 4 years extension worth about 65-70 million. The signing bonus will be the issue. He probably wants 20 million guarenteed. Bears will want it around 12 million. It will end up being 17 or so. Something like that. It will get done in the offseason for sure.

Where are you getting $14M-$15M/year? At most, his contract will be 4/$50M.

No. Matt Flynn signed with the Seahawks for 26 million over 3 years. That's almost a 9 million a year average for a guy with 1 career start. So Cutler is worth about 14- 15 million. C'mon. Understand the NFL and what they pay QBs

Yes, please go back and look at the QB contracts.

Let's look at what Ryan Fitzpatrick got last year in a contract extension.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is now the highest paid player in Buffalo Bills history. The AP reports that Fitzpatrick and the Bills agreed on the terms of a contract extension. ESPN reports it's a six-year deal worth $59 million total.
This is a win-win for both sides. The Bills are clearly improving and Fitzpatrick has been a big part of that completing over 66 percent of his passes, nearly 1,500 yards passing and 12 touchdowns to six interceptions.
For Fitzpatrick's part, $24 million of the $59 million deal is guaranteed and he'll receive $33 million over the first three years.

Who's more accomplished? Cutler or Fitzpatrick? Fitz got this extension after a hot 6 or 7 weeks last year. Cutler has a little bit more on his resume.

Dude, Tom Brady and Eli Manning make $15M per year of their contract. Who is more accomplished?

Brady makes close to 20 million a year on average of that deal.

Eli signed a couple of years ago. NFL revenue is up. The Salary cap is up. More money out there. So QBs get paid more.

Where did you learn math? 5 yr/$78.5M is not $20M per year.

Ok. Stand corrected on Brady. Still, Brady got 48 million of it guarenteed. Culter won't get anything like that. That's what was most important to Brady.

Here's Brady's structure:

Base Salary S. Bonus Misc. Bonus Cap Hit
2010 7,500,000 3,200,000 - 10,700,000
2011 5,750,000 3,200,000 4,250,000 13,200,000
2012 950,000 3,200,000 3,850,000 8,000,000
2013 9,750,000 3,200,000 8,850,000 21,800,000
2014 9,750,000 3,200,000 8,850,000 21,800,000
2015 UFA
•$48.5 million is guaranteed.
•2011 Roster Bonus: $4 million
•2013-2014 Roster Bonus: $5 million
•2012 Restructure Signing Bonus: $10.8 million
•2011-14 Workout Bonus: $25,000

I don't care what the structure is, Cutler should not be paid more than $12.25M/yr average.

He's much closer to the bottom than the top though. Do the Bears really need to hurry up and lock up the 14th best QB in the league? Let him play his way into a contract next year and then franchise him if he won't sign. It worked well for Forte. Do the same for Cutler. What's he going to do? He can't really act like a jackass about it because it only hurts his future opportunities as teams already will be wary of his attitude issues.

I hope not. 4 more years of this type of production for around $17 million? Pass. That would be a terrible deal for the Bears.

I would like to point out that this is a RAISE from what the Bears gave him a few years ago. They don't even owe him that.

As I said before, there should be serious questions if Cutler should even be the QB going forward. The offense is terrible, and the QB is a vital part of that. To pay a guy $17 million a year for this type of production would really limit the Bears going forward.

It's not even an indictment of Cutler. It would be like buying a chandelier for your trailer. The chandelier may be nice, but the trailer still sucks and the money spent on the chandelier was wasted. You'd be better served improving the rest of the trailer.

Making him the third highest paid QB in the league would be asinine. You are correct.

Ok. Maybe I was a little high. 55 million on a 4 year extension. 17 million of it guarenteed.

You broke nothing, the bears will be foolish and extend Cutler...it is not a smart move.just like the forte contract.

Not paying Cutler is retarded. The Bears have no clue how to draft a QB, and it would mean the Bears would suck for another 30 years.

Bears are going to sign Cutler, or keep Franchising him. You Neanderthals will learn to love it.

If the Bears ever bother to fix the tackle positions then Cutler can play to his potential otherwise the next qb will suck too getting sacked over 50 times a game.
