It's been well over 30 years since DePaul basketball was front & center on the Chicago sports scene. Although not much is expected again this season from head coach Oliver Purnell's Blue Demons, it appears as if DePaul's ready to vacate their longtime home at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, the arena they've called home since 1980 when it was known as the Rosemont Horizon.
Although bosses of Allstate Arena are hoping to keep the Blue Demons beyond the expiration of their lease in 2015, Mayor Rahm Emanuel & university officials are looking at various sites to relocate the team such as the area around McCormick Place as well as a rumored deal with the United Center. A report in Crain's Chicago Business last month reported that United Center bosses have offered a 10 year
RENT FREE deal, along with access to the Bulls' locker room, ticket sales, and other perks for DePaul to relocate their home games to the West Side.
BOTH of these sites aren't exactly near DePaul's Lincoln Park campus where the men's team practices & the women's team not only practices, but plays their home games.
As far as the area around McCormick Place, there is at least one group that's opposed to a proposed new DePaul arena in their neighborhood. Their reasons can be found here:
