Keppinger and Schierholtz.

Sounds like a Chabon novel.

Wittenmeyer/levine showdown.

He says Bruce "grossly misrepresented" the nature of cubs/dempster talks. "Highly implausible" he's coming back.

He fills a hole. Solid hitter (no power,I know) & good infielder.

I saw JP posted. Thought, no way can this be a lament of Jeff Keppinger.

You are naught. The guys you listed are not "good" ballplayers. They are among the best to ever play the game.

"Good" players would be Konerko, Santo, Jack Morris, Nellie Fox, Dave Winfield, etc.

The Cubs selected RHP Hector Rondon from the Indians in the 1st round of the rule 5 draft. Of course he's recovering from Tommy John surgery. The D'Bags selected RHP Starlin Peralta from the Cubs with the 14th selection.

The Cubs have a mandatory 1 Starlin rule.

That makes about 20 pitchers the Cubs now have coming off Tommy John surgery. Going to be one heck of a pitching staff.

Let's hope their scouts are as good as advertised but Rule 5 picks are always long shots anyway. I guess they figure the more the merrier on these Tommy John guys.

Thinking about it, the pick is actually kind of brilliant. If the guy is coming off of TJ surgery, they can put him on the DL for a good portion of time, then have him rehab for a month or so before putting him on the ML roster instead of having to add him immediately.

So you were probably comparing Angel Pagan to Derek Jeter and Miguel Tejada.

The Cubs lost four of their own players in the Rule 5 draft including Triple-A right-handed pitcher Starling Peralta and three Double-A prospects: outfielder Michael Burgess, infielder Matt Cerda and right-handed pitcher Alvido Jimenez.

Wrong again,hillbilly.

The idea is to improve. Keppinger means you get "better" not "good". They have no viable option at 3rd. No young prospects over the next 2 years coming up to play 3rd. Junior Lake, maybe.
So what's wrong with putting a decent MLB player at 3rd? Why is that wrong?

When it comes to "viable", you have no idea how a prospect might play from year to year. One guy good figure it out and be ready. A guy who is highly rated could fall flat on his face. There is no point in signing an old player to a multi-year deal just because you don't have a prospect who is definitely "ready" next season.

Also, over the next two years, expect the Cubs to play Vitters, Lake, Baez, and Christian Villanueva at third at some point. Possibly Timothy Saunders if he continues to develop. They also have Jeimer Candelario in the system as well. That's a lot of possible third baseman who could be ready in the next few seasons.

You are an idiot if you really think Keppinger makes this team better.
