Jimmy Meatball has a lot of bad thoughts, this isn't one of them.

Keppinger is not going to win the MVP, but he's certainly better than Ian Sterwart and Luis Valbueana (and Brent Morel). Therefore, he does make the team better.

 Ian Stewart is the only player in MLB that blows more than Josh Vitters

So instead of 70 wins the Cubs will spend 4 million to get to 73! Awesome use of resources!

 But they didn't sign Keppinger. What exactly are you bitching about?

Exactly. Sure Keppinger is slightly better than Stewart and Valbueana. But it is not that big of margin to give him any money. I was thrilled to see the Sox sign him so that would keep him away from the Cubs.

Frank, never doubt me on Jimmy being an idiot. NEVER.

I didn't say anything about money. RFDC said that Keppinger doesn't make the team better. In fact, he does because he would be an upgrade at 3rd base.

No one should care about Keppinger this much. He doesnt even care about himself this much.

I think we can all agree that Vitters takes the next step in 2013 and the Cubs win 83 games. :drunken: :drunken:

Him being slightly better at 3B is not going to make this overall team better. This team is going to suck. 76 wins with Valbueana and 79 wins with Keppinger is not better. Come on Frank, stop being annoying.

Marginal utility. I'll simplify the concept for you.

Cubs: For 4 million dollars adding Keppinger over Valbuena gives them the 10th pick instead of 8th.

Sox: For 4 million dollars adding Keppinger over Morel possibly means the Central division.

Huge difference in utility.

Zombie Santo might not be that bad but it would take a while to get his legs back under him.

Yes but he basically told the Cubs to fuck themselves all last season. Why not get some other bum off the street?

They still think he is the best value?

Look, I wish I could take that trade back in an instance...but I don't share the same level of disdain towards him as some of you.

I just think a guy that quit on his team isnt the best clubhouse guy to have around a team of rookies and young players.

I once asked Ian Stewart who the Cubs third baseman should be in 2013. He asked what kind of question that was, complete with a bro.

He vanished from the team and didnt do any rehab work. The manager forgot he was even on the team.

The comments here are fantastic...

Probably the best available solution for 3rd base.

agreed. Epstein's been a monster this offseason finding value.

Considering one of the players they were also interested in was Yuniesky Betancourt, this is a good signing. Stewart in Chicago for the second time, will compete for a job at Third Base. Should be better than Luis Valbuena was if healthy.

I like the non-guaranteed aspect. If he sucks in the spring, launch or trade his ass. If he's good, then you have a value signing. He's still just 27 so not much to lose here.

As to Vitters, remember they also have Junior Lake doing well in the VZL so at least they have a couple guys in AAA giving them some depth so hopefully 1 of these guys proves worthy until Baez is ready maybe by mid 2014, then they have a trade chip or two.

Frankly I figured Stewart would land a guaranteed deal somewhere for at least 1M, so he must have confidence he can win the job with The Cub so that bodes well.

I personally don't like that the guy left the team after the injury but if he can hit and field, it has to be an upgrade over Valbuena who didn't show all that much in his extended look.
