Decided to try the fish fry today. Place has an odd smell to it. Almost like a funeral home. It is a fish fry but they do not provide lemons. They also do not provide sour cream for baked potatoes. The menu invites you to "feel free to bring your own." WTF?

Waitresses can not carry alcohol to the table. Nor can they bring sodas. WTF?

Naperville's VFW was always a great fish fry and good experience. This is just sad and odd.

Ok, we get it. You like to eat at VFWs. No need to brag about it.

Wheaton has a long history of prohibition, an old-time resident founded the fish fry and it seems her children may still run it. So it should not be surprising that alcohol and soft drinks are treated as afterthoughts.

Also it is not unusual for fried fish to be served without lemon, especially in the U.S.

Life is exceedingly well. My wife is finishing up some stuff at work. She gets like 40 paid days off a year so she has to work late once a month or she feels guilty.

With it being Advent and all, I have given up responding to posts by IMU and Panther. Well IMU anyway. I did respond to a few really odd things that Panther posted in the Daley Thread i started this week. I wonder if Panther wears tin foil hats.

My eyes have been bothering me a lot lately, so i went to America's Best this week for new specs.
Two pairs for $69.95 MY FUCKING ASS. I will soon have bi-focals and the total cost was $369.00 dollars and change.

I thought it was a rip off, so i called Lisa Madigan, you know, the Atty. General. She asked where I was calling from, and when i said DuPage County, the harlot hung up on me. I'm not even registered Republican. I think that is what Speeps calls white people problems. Where the hell is Baby McNown when he is actually needed.

Going to the East coast for Christmas, First one out of Illinois. Ever. Should be interesting to see how the snobby part of the country celebrates. The real snobby side. Not the pretend one that Good Dolphin lives in.

I gotta go now. Need to have a glass of Moscato and a salad on the table for my lovely bride when she gets home in ten.

Chat more soon,
Crest

I've never been to a place where they serve fish sans lemon.

Gosh and just two weeks ago we learned Ohio restaurants serve you food in exchange for money. Now this place goes BYOL. Wonders never cease.

Every VFW I've been in smells odd. And regardless of the apparent fine dining going on at the Naperville location, the nonination should have been titled "me" for you expecting decent food at a vfw.

I don't believe he ever said anything about decent food. He just expected lemons, sour cream, and for beverages to be brought to the table. I think that's quite reasonable.

None of that is reasonable at a vfw. Figure out a place worse than McDonald's, and that's what you should expect from the food and service at a vfw. You go there to drink, bullshit with old timers, and play pool. That's it.

I think Howitt went looking for a fish fry with a side of lemon and sour cream.

When you take a hard look at it, if guys like yourself are noble enough to put your life on the line for the rest of us, then adding a little lemon with sour cream doesn't sound like such an unreasonable expectation.

Thanks for your service FF.

Having spent my childhood growing up in Wheaton, I can say with total confidence that they have always been a little different with regard to side items, among other things.

I didn't until earlier this year in Elk Grove Village. It was for a Friday Fish Fry, as well.

Some are nicer than others. The one in Evanston is basically a dive bar sitting atop the pro shop at Jann golf course. There is one is Des Plaines that is like a full social club with a real restaurant and meeting facilities.
