Sprint bought out Us Cellular Midwest. They will start the change over Jan 1. From what I have found out Chicago will convert in July.
Has anyone else heard anything? I am wondering what kind of deal they offer those of us coming over. Also ,will they still continue to call the park US Cellular?

I hope that improves Sprint's coverage but I may be gone before then. I'm suddenly dropping calls at a ridiculous rate. I often get no service on the Kennedy from about Belmont to Montrose. Thinking of switching to Verizon this weekend.

Also, it would be silly to change the name of the ballpark to Sprint Field as long as Konerko is their main guy.

I heard about this a few weeks ago.

 They aren't going to change the name of the ballpark. US Cellular is only selling the midwest coverage area over much of IL, IN & the St. Louis area to Sprint. They're keeping the name until the contract is up.

I've heard Sprint is really bad. I really don't know what I'm going to do, since all I've heard is bad things about all the companies.

I'll likely switch in July to Verizon or get an iPhone.

Doesn't Verizon have the iPhone?

Government backed telecom monopolies are awesome.

I was hoping to move back to US Celluar when my next contract was up. Sprint will undoubtedly make them suck now. This is some bullshit...

It's my understanding that U.S. Cellular's naming rights were NOT included in the sale to Sprint. The home of the White Sox will continue to be U.S. Cellular Field...Unless an even bigger phone company chews up Sprint in due time.

I like the idea of stadiums being named after defunct companies. Maybe a Venture Arena or Montgomerie Ward Center.

Whenever I hear Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue", I somehow think of that electronics department at Montgomery Ward back in the day.

US cellular isn't going to be defunct. They will continue to carry service in other parts of the country, but just not in this area. It's like if Pepsi decided not to carry caffeinated non-Colas & they sold off Mt. Dew to RC. They'd still have Pepsi, Sierra Mist, etc., but no longer Mt. Dew.

Same difference. So a company is paying however many millions to "advertise" in a market they no longer serve or don't serve at all. Completely pointless naming.

I agree. I guess they're banking on the advertisement they'll get when teams visit the Sox & the stadium gets mentioned on air. Still not worth it, but I'm guessing The Chairman won't let them out of their deal.
