Even though the NFL is filled with teams that went from bad to good simply because QB play improved, and the NFL is filled with such parity that unless you are either Al Davis, or related to Al Davis, you have a roster made up with roughly the same amount of talent as at least half the teams in the league, the Bears clearly cannot put any players around Cutler. Three offensive coordinators. Countless WRs that all fail. No RB's that can do anything. Cutler deserves, and the NFL deserves, for his immense talent to not be wasted on such a terrible franchise. Hopefully, he can find a team like the Panthers, Redskins, or Colts that were amazing offenses that could just throw in a new quarterback and improve greatly and then we can finally see Cutler throw for over 300 yards more than about 1.5 times a year!

Morally, this is the right thing to do. I know it isn't easy, as there is much joy in seeing Cutler make two or three highlight plays a game, and two or three interceptions or near interceptions. Oh, strike that. Drops only matter if the Bears WR's do it, not the defensive player.

I think if we do this, Cutler can go from starting in the hypothetical pro bowl, to starting in the real pro bowl.

You forget that it is the bad gibes from fans and talk show hosts that is also keeping him down.

He has already played in the Pro Bowl. And cut him slack, he's playing with a career ending neck injury.

Marshall too. How much do they need to overcome before the Bears do the right thing?

The next QB and next head coach will always be better.

Exactly. Cutler consistently sets franchise records and demonstrates he is the best QB in Chicago in a long time, but guys like Rick create these false ideas that some Bears fans think that means he is a perfect, elite quarterback which then means all Bears fans think he is as good as Rodgers, Brady and Manning.

And then they continually argue that Cutler isn't as good as we think he is. Which is a silly, irrelevent argument, that only serves to allow Rick to vicariously live his dream of being Bernstein to the Cutler fan meatballs.

This all while there really isn't an argument happening at all, really. It's made up. It's really odd.

Going into today's game, Cutler was 31st in DYAR and 29th in DVOA. He's almost certainly not as good as Bears fans think he is.

How good do they think he is? I heard at least a dozen calls on post game suggesting he cost them the game and isn't a winner and yadda yadda. I don't think bears fans think he is as good as you think they think he is.

Just based on my own observations, much better than I think they think I think they should think he is.

Ah yes, the "Brandon Marshall is the ~30th best wide receiver in the NFL" ratings.

Not anymore they don't. I do enjoy when people drop stats that obviously try and paint a clear picture on a guy, but the poster never says what they think they mean, just that whatever you think they mean is wrong, and if you'd [Dan Bernstein]just look at the numbers! Exasperated sigh![/ Dan Bernstein] you'd see it. Here his Dusty DVORacek score ranks a guy 30th and these stats are supposed to truly give a view of the value of a player. However it doesn't mean he's the 30th best player, it means...something else, but it's obviously so important it was posted.

The Football Hall and Nash want to do a little survey, and it's another win for the nebulous stat guys.

I don't know. You don't base decisions like this because you are scared of uncertainty going forward.

The records stuff is more a function of a pass happy NFL. Tony Romo is setting franchise records on a team with multiple hall of fame QB's.

Also, I can find plenty of posts on here where Cutler is called elite(hypothetically of course). Of course he's not playing elite. He's playing below the league average. If you can cite statistics about his "franchise records" can I post his statistics this year, and who he is on par with?

You are one of the prime examples here. Cutler throws 1.5 pick 6s and you say this:

Cutler was really really good today.

He literally gave up more points with bad throws than the offense scored under his watch.

Let's gauge this. Pick the 3 current QBs he is most comparable to and explain why.

Some of those "amazing" throws from Cutler to Marshall appeared to me as questionable throws that Marshall just made great plays on. Cutler is just not an accurate passer. He slings it out there and if a receiver (almost always #15) is somehow able to fight off two or three defenders to make a play, Cutler seems to get most of the credit.

Yes, there were a couple of TD drops by Hester and Jeffery...but the Vikings also dropped a couple of picks.

But that goes hand in hand with the style of play, Frank. It's going to be tough to have a Hall of Fame running back on a team that passes 50 times a game. You don't really believe Drew Brees is a better passer than guys like Otto Graham and Roger Staubach, do you?

That's why it's pretty pointless to cite "franchise records" as meaningful.

To put it another way, Alex Smith owns four 49ers franchise records.
