Lake is playing the outfield in Winter Ball. He may actually be worse at third base than he is at shortstop.

I think they are grooming him as a super sub capable of playing INF and OF.

I can't be bothered to go back a page......what does everyone here think of Nate Schierholtz as your starting RF? John Schuerholtz's kid?

I never said that about Keppinger.

I said he would be an upgrade at 3rd base over what the Cubs had there last year, and therefore an upgrade at 3rd base makes the team better.

So we can all agree that Schierholz is the best RF in the MLB

I think that goes without saying.

FOX Sports has the idea that the Mariners might have interest in David DeJesus and in turn offer the Cubs some young arms. They can have him. I think Sappelt/Nate Schierholtz could fill the bill in his place.

McCarthy gets 15.5 for two years from Arizona. I would have been fine with 2/20 if the Cubs saw fit. Damn.

The Cubs offer was heavy on incentives which is smart. This guy has never stayed healthy ever.

Once again the DWARF Keyser is wrong...does he just make stuff up????

Here are Lakes actual games played in the Dominican Winter League...

DH 14 mostly in November
SS 10 starts 3 in game substitutions
3B 9 starts 1 sub
DNP 6
LF 4 starts 1 sub

BA .336 2nd in league
SLUG .496 5th in league
OPS .898 4th in league
4 HRS 19 RBI

His team Estrellas de Oriente is 28-15 and is in 1st place

The kid just rakes where ever he plays and he is still just 22.

The Phillies have discussed a deal with the Cubs that would net them Alfonso Soriano in exchange for Domonic Brown, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. However, the Phillies might be more inclined to sign a free agent, such as Cody Ross or someone else.

Since you asked....

Soriano for a crappy prospect? Sounds about right. Make the Phillies eat the entire contract though.

The guy is 24 and was one of the top prospects in baseball two years ago. I don't mind the trade.

Says he is 25 on his baseball reference page. Beyond that read the fan graphs article I linked. He already has had 4 hand injuries. I stand by my statement. I don't care if Soriano goes. Make them eat the whole contract. The fact that the Phillies would even consider trading a "prospect" for Soriano tells me everything I need to know. He is a bustola.

That article was written at the beginning of last season. His AAA numbers ended up not being too bad last year. Still young, not quite a bustola yet. Call him Brett Jackson.

 Well being a Brett Jackson is better than being a Josh Vitters I reckon. I would still do the deal. The Cubs have no need for Soriano and you can never have enough mediocre outfield prospects.

Based on what I've read, sounds like the Phillies are using the Cubs to get Cody Ross to sign. As to Brown, sounds like a bust so far so if all they get is him and save 10M total out of 36M, bad trade for the Cub.

Gotta have some power/protection on the team for Rizzo so he doesn't get pitched around like crazy in his first full year in the bigs.

Lim won't be helping in that cause. The 36 year-old Korean recently underwent Tommy John Surgery and is targeting 2014.

The Chicago Cubs acquired right-handed relief pitcher Sandy Rosario, the team announced Wednesday.

Rosario had 17 saves and a 1.99 ERA in 31 minor league appearances last season, including games with Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A teams in the Florida Marlins organization.

He also missed time with a strained right calf.

This Cub team is really screaming for Mike North's coverage.

Over the last week, have heard compliments from other teams about the way that the Cubs are methodically rebuilding, from the ground up.

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN
One more thing about the Cubs: I don't think Price will be traded until next winter, but by then, they could be well-positioned to land him.

The Garza trade doesn't look like the heist it initially did so far. But I'm done trading with the Rays. The Rays seem to sucker counter-parties in trades. They trade their vets right before they decline or masked by the Trop in exchange for gutting the opponent's farm system.

I would publicly compliment my competitor if I thought he was running his business into the ground in the hopes that he would continue that course. Giving up half a decade in the hope of a farm system producing for a team with financial werewithal and in this baseball environment doesn't seem all that great to me.

   Yeah that is like me complimenting someone in my fantasy football team for being shitty and just giving into the pot with no chance of winning. I mean I still get what Theo is going for but who the fuck cares what other teams think about the way the Cubs are rebuilding.
