So when you said you'd like to see him coach the Bears that's because you want to see then suck?
Ok then. For a minute I thought you lost your mind.

Of course I want them to suck. Why would I want them to be very good? I want them to hire Andy Reid and extend Cutler for 5 years/$80 million, $30M+ guaranteed.

For gods sake man. Go fuck some cheese in the Packers thread and let people not crazy talk about the Bears without your goofy cowtippers fuck it all up talking crazy shit about Andy Fucking Reid.

I have displayed neither nitwittery nor bizarre thoughts. It's a pretty normal thought to hope that your team's biggest rival fires their above average head coach and replaces him with a terrible head coach. I'm sorry you confused yourself by thinking I was a Bears fan momentarily.

Yeah, reading posts on a Chicago SPORTS FAN message board in the Bears section caused me to lose focus.
But your post read like you were making that statement based on what would be a solid football thing for the Bears to do.
I'm sorry I gave you credit for trying to use your noodle instead of engaging in unbridled meatballery.
I won't make that mistake again.

I think my post was pretty easy to comprehend. Andy Reid and Norv Turner are quite clearly terrible coaches. Obviously I want them to coach the Bears. This isn't hard stuff. However, Norv would actually be a "solid football" hiring as an offensive coordinator. He seems to do great things at that spot wherever he goes. That was also pretty clear in my post. I'm not even sure how you managed to infer whatever it was your did from the post.

This was a pretty solid read. Except that for Turner business

Lovie Smith has had his team in a position where after Thanksgiving, they pretty much had to win 2 games to make the playoffs. They didn't last year. I'd say its probably a 50-50 shot at best for them to do it this year. And don't forget a couple of years ago all they had to do was beat the .500 Texans to get in, and they failed. I agree with IB on everything he said about Lovie, and I really don't like or hate the guy as a coach.

I think priority #1 for this team has to be offensive line. Doesn't matter if its Cutler or somebody else under center, if the OLine doesn't improve the offense isn't likely to improve by a whole lot.

I do think if Cutler ends up going, Brandon Marshall isn't like to stick around for very long.

Marshall is a star...best player on the team..Emery got him for almost nothing...Shea MC was drafted to ply in a 3-4. Angelo overpaid for Cutler n peppers...Emery may suck, but too early to say that as a fact.

Please, please, please stop calling the Bears the Packers biggest rival. There can't be a rivalry when one team always beats the other because they are head and shoulders above the other. If the Bears lose by less than 14 points I will be shocked. I would call the Giants the Packers biggest rival. The Bears are a nobody.

Second, you don't see Kyle Orton make a lot of wow throws in the red zone because, well, he's on the bench.

Give Emery a chance, fire Lovie and whatever.

You contradicted yourself man. You can't claim the "hammer/nail" theory when discounting the Packers/Bears rivalry and then say the Giants and Packers are rivals. The Bears and Packers are clearly eachother's biggest rivals, suggesting otherwise is just obnoxious.

I'm fairly shocked that somebody hasn't started fellating Childress as a posibility ... not that we need help seperating the dopes out of the crowd, but it would help.

I see your point and wasn't trying to be obnoxious, I was thinking that the Giants and Packers were more evenly matched and that over time would play to a draw. The Bears are a horseshit team and not a match for any team above .500.

I dislike Minnesota more than any other pro franchise, but im pretty sure it's no contest if you ask every GB fan in the country who the majority would say is their biggest rival/least favorite team is.

CB - I get your point, but the Packers as constructed will almost always lose to the Giants. It's the worst matchup in the NFL for them. They are the only team that makes me legitimately think GB has no chance.

The Vikings probably supplanted the Bears as the Packers biggest rivals in the 90s when Wanny and Jauron were the coaches. GB won so many of those against the Bears that the rivalry lost its luster. And the Vikings had a few decent teams that went to the NFC title game a couple times. Randy Moss was a great player to hate back then. I still vividly remember that Monday night game in 1998 when Cunningham and Moss smoked the Pack at Lambeau. Plus, the Vikes and Packers met in the playoffs in 2004, which Minny won, and Moss mooned the crowd. Then we have the whole Brett Favre saga which took the rivalry to another level. Personally, I've had much more loathing for Minnesota than the Bears. It's a function of the Bears rivalry having become tamer since the Ditka-Gregg days.

1.) Dave in Champaign hasn't said anything wrong about Brandon Marshall yet, so when he says something about him, also attribute that thought to me.

(One minor exception: I'm increasingly uncomfortable with football outsiders in general. I still look at and use the numbers but I worry about them. His general points still stand.)

2.) Lovie Smith probably has to go. I think he is a better-than-league-average head coach. But after a decade, there's value in simply turning over an organization. As time goes by, the blind spots in organizational management are augmented just because they build upon themselves year after year. Similarly, I thought Jerry Angelo was a better-than-average GM and that it was time for him to go.

3.) We probably won't do better than Lovie Smith. The average NFL head coach is average. But so it goes.

4.) Fire Phil Emery

5.) Speaking as someone surrounded by Vikings fans: people in Minnesota laugh their dicks off at the thought that Jay Cutler is anything other than a mediocre quarterback. It's becoming difficult to disagree.

6.) This team might go 2-14 in two years.

On #5, that simply reflects the populist narrative. I don't usually give much credence to the populist narrative, and neither do you apparently, based on what you say in #1. I'm sure those same Vikings fans think Marshall is a top 5 receiver. So, your #1 and #5 seem to contradict each other.

2 and 3) Agreed with your thoughts on Lovie, but here are Angelo's most recent drafts:

2011
1 Gabe Carimi Wisconsin appears to be a bust
2 Stephen Paea Oregon State meh
3 Chris Conte California not a bad 3rd rounder
5 Nathan Enderle Idaho bad
6 J.T. Thomas West Virginia bad

2010
3 Major Wright Florida ok 3rd rounder
4 Corey Wootton Northwestern good 4th rounder!
5 Joshua Moore Kansas State bad
6 Dan LeFevour Central Michigan bad
7 J'Marcus Webb West Texas A&M bad - only a 7th rounder, but, never having anyone better to play the position is sinful

2009: Like 2010, no 1st or 2nd rounder due to need to compensate for other poor drafts. Melton, Moore, and Louis were good picks. Knox contributed. Notice, this is three straight years without a single impact player. Not one.

3 Jarron Gilbert San Jose State
3 Juaquin Iglesias Oklahoma
4 Henry Melton Texas
4 D.J. Moore Vanderbilt
5 Johnny Knox Abilene Christian
5 Marcus Freeman Ohio State
6 Al Afalava Oregon State
7 Lance Louis San Diego State
7 Derek Kinder Pittsburgh

2008:
1 Chris Williams Vanderbilt Bust
2 Matt Forte Tulane Hey, here's an impact player (sort of)!
3 Earl Bennett Vanderbilt meh
3 Marcus Harrison Arkansas bad
4 Craig Steltz Louisiana State bad
5 Zackary Bowman Nebraska bad
5 Kellen Davis Michigan State bad
7 Ervin Baldwin Michigan State bad
7 Chester Adams Georgia bad
7 Joey LaRocque Oregon State bad
7 Kirk Barton Ohio State bad
7 Marcus Monk Arkansas bad

2007:

1 Greg Olsen Miami (Fla.) meh... first round?
2 Dan Bazuin Central Michigan bad
3 Garrett Wolfe Northern Illinois bad
3 Michael Okwo Stanford bad
4 Josh Beekman Boston College bad
5 Kevin Payne Louisiana-Monroe bad
5 Corey Graham New Hampshire ok for 5th rounder
7 Trumaine McBride Mississippi bad
7 Aaron Brant Iowa State bad

That is a real, real shitty resume right there. You can review the rest if you want (http://www.databasefootball.com/draft/d ... chi&lg=nfl). But the notion that Angelo's picks, either high rounds or mid rounds, are any good, is off the mark.

4) Since that won't happen, and since he hasn't done anything in less than a year to warrant a firing, I assume you mean he wasn't qualified to get the job to begin with. If that's what you mean, then you might be right.

6) Of course they could. Largely due to Angelo's piss poor drafting and the resulting necessity to overpay in trades and free agency to compensate with a few star players.

#1 "Grossman never looked good."

He was being mentioned as an MVP candidate in the first part of 06. He looked great and put up great numbers.

You're a decent poster but you're way too dismissive and you state opinions (some ridiculous) as facts.

And if people here can't recognize the talent gathering run Angelo pulled off leading up to the Super Bowl then they are not being honest.

He wasn't great but he did some real good things here
