Phil: I want Lovie gone.
Virginia's mouthpiece: We don't do things like that around here.

It would never happen that way and if he didnt know that before he took this job, he is an idiot.

But remember, Phil Emery runs this team

Well, if he's in charge he ought to say something, no?

i think realistically, dj moore and brandon marshall are shuttled at the end of season. they will fire dave for decline in the special teams, and they will draft 5 more defensive guys to replace the wide receiver void.

Virginia McCaskey is the female equivalent of Bill Wirtz. Only until that dried bag of skin does the dirt dance, things will be business as usual until then.
Hopefully her sons have a fucking clue by then on how to run a team.

No I'm not saying that. Bill Wirtz also threw money at high dollar players but got really nothing in return because he was an old ass dumb motherfucker who was running his hockey team like shit. There needed to be new blood to take over the reigns and hire some great Staff members like Dale Tallon (i know but he did build this team) and John McDonough.

NFL fans are owner fetishists. Besides from the select few at the absolute bottom they are just faceless rich people who write checks, collect bigger checks, and strong-arm local governments into subsidizing them.

I don't know about that being an NFL thing. NHL fans are notoriously keyed into who the owners are, and why not? You need to know who's shutting your league down every eight years, and it's fun to guess who the next one will be to go to federal prison. I've got a tenner on the ex-Goldman Sachs guy who owns the Devils.

I'd say that NFL owners cut fairly imposing profiles, inasmuch as prohibitions on corporations and consortia lead to a bunch of eccentric weirdos with too much money and too little sense: Danny Snyder, Jerry Jones, Paul Allen, Stephen Ross, so forth. Plus, you have the families that got in on the ground floor of their leagues and as such have no real income to subsidize their toys: the Rooneys, Hunts, Maras (though they're backed up by the Tisches now), Bidwills, Davises, and of course our own little self-styled football Pritzkers. Of course, for all of these colorful characters, you have owners in Baltimore, Minnesota, and elsewhere that no one really cares about, So there is an interesting dynamic to the people behind the teams that there isn't in the NBA where you can have Consolidated Rich Guys LLC running your team and not have it particularly matter.

Dale Tallon was as much a crusty-ass loyalty hire as anyone in the organ-eye-zation, and it showed when he ran the team into the ground by doling out blank checks to cost-controlled players.

I do love that "The experts" will defend the Bears for spending money, but will be the first ones to say that the Bears are not likely fire Lovie because they owe him another $5 Mill

With the TV revenues and Salary caps, what teams spend on players is just not an issue. Every team has enough money to sign top free agents or retain players. It's where teams do and dont spend money on the other ends of the team, such as scouting, coaches, practice facilities, stadiums....and in those areas the Bears are near the bottom in all of them....Emery just doubled the size of the scouting dept this year because they have been the smallest group in the NFl for years.

So when's the last time a team with a shit record (et al) had their GM march out there and make a stump speech?

Then, when's the last time doing so directly led to a march to a playoff run?

I still want to know what anyone saw from Emery's past that made them excited about him being hired?

He wasn't Jerry Angelo.

He wasn't Jerry Angelo.

Jerry Angelo took over a franchise that had been completely broken for over a decade and returned it to respectability.

Phil Emery became head scout of a perpetually successful franchise at exactly the moment it decided to load up on draft picks, and a couple years later the Chiefs have the inside track to make the first pick in the draft.

Good thing we ran Angelo out of town!

I don't know WTF you are always defending Angelo for. Dude got a job for a decade, left the cupboard bare. I didn't dislike the guy, but he failed to draft anyone in the last five years or so. I dunno what Emery will do, but it can't be any worse.

He left one of the best defenses in the NFL, a darn good running back, and traded for ermahgerd Jay Cutler. He also put together a team that made a super bowl and an NFC championship game. It can't be any worse? This is going to be a team of Shea McClellins pretty soon. Get back to me then and we'll see which team is worse.

Ángelos draftees are gone or benched and there are no picks in the pipieline. An waging defense with no depth-a "franchise Qb" who cant win a game without 3 or 4 defensively turnovers (and is throwing picks at a grossman-like rate) and a feel good coach who still has no clock management skills after 8 years.
tell me why the cubs need Jim hendry back while you're at it

One of the signs of a lousy Manager is not being able to recruit, hire, & retain quality people. Lovie has never been able to recruit, hire & retain quality football guys. Successful organizations put good people in place & have a long term strategic plan that they focus on & stick with. Organizations who are constantly churning through people & replacing people will always struggle. The Bears stuck with Lovie even after he proved that he cant lead people or an organization.
The time has come to improve the Bears organization & stop settling for mediocrity. Fire the entire coaching staff, let Urlacher go, let Cutler walk, & hire a head football coach who has at least done the job before & start all over. No more Peter principle hires. There are numerous quality experienced head football coaches who are available. There are also some great College head football coaches like Chris Peterson. Its time to hire one of them. The Bears made a huge mistake when they declined the chance to hire the next great young head football coach in the NFL 3 years ago. This shit show has run its coarse.

He did half of his job. Succeeded with the defense, but fucked the offense. I don't know how that is success.
