Who should it be? Who will it be? Will they finally hire someone with previous NFL head coaching experience??

They could do a helluva lot worse. I'm in the Bill Cowher camp but he wants to much power so doubtful. Gruden has to be considered as well given his offensive mindset.

Why look for new talent when you can recycle other franchises' refuse?

The guy in Pittsburgh has done a fine job,but most of these "young minds" end up out of a job in 2-3 years.

I think they need someone who has done it before.

Those guys are out of the league too.

EDIT: and two of the three were fired.

how quickly we forget all the criticism Billick has gotten in his career. He has one of the greatest defenses ever in the NFL and it got him a championship. Do you remember how awful his offenses were in Baltimore?

yeah I will pass on Billick.

Let's hope Emery can find the right guy as opposed to hiring a fucking search firm. That was really bad.

I have a lot of faith that Phil Emery can take the lessons he learned in the Kansas City front office and apply those lessons in Chicago.

As long as we are throwing out lazy retread coaching names, why does no one ever mention Schottenheimer? Front office upheaval wouldn't matter to him because he'd be gone in two or three years anyway due to age. He has a fantastic track record (save the whole playoff troubles) and, if anything, he's been vindicated by what happened down in SD. If you wanted a coach to take one last-ditch effort at a SB run with this roster and with Cutler as your QB, I'd probably just go with him.

If you're going to blow the whole damn thing up and draft, I don't know, Landry Jones or something because Phil Emery is stupid, then hire someone new.

Are you talking about coaching or the Bears OLine?

Hey, we don't need to draft offensive linemen when you've got a talent like Shea McClellin that falls to you.

Fire Phil Emery.

 How about bringing back Buddy Ryan? Or Da Coach? Maybe Jimmy Johnson wants to leave Fox?

How about Mike Holmgren?

I always thought Marty Shotenheimer was a great coach who watched his best RB fumble away a couple of Playoff games. I'll bet though,Bear fans will say he's too old after the first loss.

Don't forget the last time the Bears brought in a "young up and comer", "the next big thing", that was Dave Wannstedt.

Hire Chip Kelly.

Or Gene Kelly.

Or Jim Kelly.

Hire someone with a last name of Kelly.

Mike Holmgren is also running things in Cleveland. Will the McCaskis let him run everything here? I'm sure him & Michael will argue over what kind of toilet paper to use.

Too much fire and passion for the milquetoast McCaskeys. It's gonna be some pious babbler with a thousand-yard stare for the third time in a row. But the McCaskeys aren't involved in football operations. And this is presuming that they'll even fire Lovie and eat the rest of the contract in the first place. But the McCaskeys aren't cheap.

Guys, Pat Fitzgerald doesn't even coach fucking Northwestern. He's a cheerleader who has never in his life had a job that involved game scheming.

Yeah, that too. Don't college coaches have to be considered pretty elite to survive the jump to the pros? Northwestern isn't even that good!

Still, Dan's Northwestern Source says he's being considered around the league, so.

I was just kidding about Fitz. I do hope the next Bears coach has a personality. I'm sick of the "Mr. Rogers" type guys.

Like I said earlier: SB winning coach:Brian Billick

Michael McCaskey is the guy who annoys everyone at owners' meetings by prattling on about following Robert's Rules of Order or something. There will never be a Rex Ryan or Rex Ryan type in the idyllic wonderland of Lake Forest. They might not use their inside voices!

I think there's enough good and bad coaches on every point of the Meyer-Briggs spectrum that you can make whatever point you'd like to make based on that. The best head coaches are consistently innovative within a league that can be stultifying. Give me someone willing to try something.
