Do you inquire about either of these guys in the offseason? Give a mid round pick or two up to try to bring in competition for Cutler before just stupidly extending him for 4-5 years? Or do you blow up the whole team and try to draft a QB/LT in the first 2 rounds?

Matt Flynn will either be cut or traded for a low round pick because he is making way too much cash to be sitting on the bench in Seattle. Smith will also be readily available. If the Bears think either are viable starters, they should trade Cutler.

They should call Arizona and see if the Cardinals are stupid/desperate enough to give up their first round pick this draft for Cutler. That's a pick that is high enough to draft a franchise LT/QB.

One draft pick on a middle linebacker and the rest on offensive linemen. I doubt either of those guys are much better than Cutler.....but Cutler is tough to figure. If we are going to change QB's, then I want a true franchise guy- Luck. RG3, etc. Middle of the road guys, no thanks.

If you saw the NFC Championship game a year ago, I think you saw all you needed to see with now 49ers' backup Alex Smith. He wasn't good enough to get the Niners past the Giants and punch the Super Bowl ticket. With the emergence of Colin Kaepernick now in San Francisco, I think we may have seen the last of Smith in a Niners' uniform, but I'm not so sure I'd trade picks to the 49ers to land Alex.

As for Matt Flynn, the Seahawks spent a lot of $$$$ hoping he was going to be the man in Seattle, not Russell Wilson. He'll be expendable in the offseason, but I still haven't seen enough body of work to tell if he's good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL long term. For all I know, he might be Seattle-speak for Kevin Kolb.

If Alex Smith is here and Cutler is not next season, start the Fire Emery train. Alex Smith is not a viable starting QB for a super bowl team. Flynn? Who knows, he hasn't had enough time to showcase what he can do...

Yeah, Alex Smith was the guy who fumbled the punts. I forgot about that.

That's ridiculous. He was a Kyle Williams fumble away from starting for an SB team last year, and was playing like one of the top QBs in the league this year before he lost his job due to a concussion. Alex Smith + a potential franchise LT > Cutler + Webb. It's not even close actually. So if Emery can turn Cutler into Arizona's top 10 pick and get Alex Smith for a 4th or 5th rounder, he probably just improved the team.

Uh, that was Kenny Williams' kid, Kyle Williams. Alex Smith still wasn't good enough.

What are you talking about? The 49ers win that game if not for Williams. Alex Smith was certainly good enough to win that game. And he took it to the Saints and won that game for them the week before. I dont love Alex Smith but he had a good season last year and the start of this season.

Smith played pretty well that game. 2 TD's, no interceptions. The fumble decided the game.

You are out of your mind if you think. Zona or any other team. Is giving up a top ten pick for cutler.

so yeah, if Zona gets a case of the stupids and does that, sure. But Alex Smith is barely a game manager. I've watched every San Fran game this and last season, I'm an even bigger Niners fan than a Bears fan. There's a reason he's not starting anymore over Kap.

Still not enough to get the Niners past the Giants. If Jim Harbaugh's smart, he stays with Colin Kaepernick for the Niners' own Super Bowl quest. As for Alex Smith, I don't want him. He sucks!

They gave one up plus a top rated CB for that pile of shit on their IR right now.

Edit: Second round pick. But still.

Arizona made quite a deal to get Kevin Kolb from Philadelphia and look what's happened? Kolb's done for the year with bruised ribs & has been a flop when he's been healthy for the Cardinals.

Smith was about 4,000,000x better in the NFC championship game than Cutler was the year the Bears made it.

You realize you can not like a guy and still give him credit. Alex Smith was plenty good enough to beat the Giants that day.

By your logic, Tom Brady isnt that good because he couldnt get past the Giants either.

EDIT: And let's add Aaron Rodgers to the list of QBs that arent very good because they lost to the Giants.

Smith is a better game manager than cutler, and had a much better coach to prepare him.

I was watching the Cowboys and Steelers yesterday and it really struck me the difference in QB like Roethlisberger and even Romo versus Cutler. These guys have bad lines and are under constant pressure as well but they seem to be able to escape pressure to make plays while Cutler sits back and takes shots.

I'd love to see Cutler on the Browns. The Browns are a quarterback away from competing for multiple division titles. Solid o-line, T-rich and young hungry defense.

young hungry defense had a 40 spot put up on them by a second string rookie

I do like the Browns going forward though. You left out a pretty nice group of young WR. That Gibson supplemental pick is looking like a brilliant decision.

The Bears would be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Cutler.

Agreed ....teams would rather roll the dice on a Russ Wilson,Kirk cousins or Andy faulting then overpay for an average at best diva...who gets hurt too often ...and is ageing.

The Jets need a QB. They coughed up a 4th rounder for Tebow. Could easily get a 2nd for Cutler from them. Or better.

I don't feel good about any of the QBs coming out this year.

Float Cutler for a second rounder. If someone accepts, commence Operation Suuuuuuuck for next year and ride with Placekeeper Quarterback To Be Determined, overhaul the line, and draft a QB in 2014. If no one accepts, hold this thing together with paper clips and string for one more season.
