Guys, I know what you're referring. In the TV commercials, the two ladies and the one guy in an office promoting Subway's Steak Melts use kid voices for reasons I can't figure. In the radio ads for those same Subway Steak Melts, they use their regular, adult voices. What's the deal?

Yes, these are tremendously irritating. As far as 'why the kid voices,' I have a theory: my theory is that the originally conceived the commercial sans-kinds-voices, and it was just awkward. It seemed very juvenile, so they figured they'd go with it, and make the hook that it was grownups living out playground scenarios. Sure, it still makes no sense, but that's the only sense I can make of it.

It's so funny/dumb that they refuse to just let 104.3 be honest-to-goodness oldies again. It has to be "classic hits," because god forbid a radio station in this town doesn't play "Runnin' Down a Dream" or "The Logical Song" every fucking hour. It's these consultants, I tell you, the consultants. They have everyone living in this constant fear that someone somewhere might be inclined to -- gasp! -- change the station. DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN. So while television is allowed to invent cable channels dedicated to each individual hair in your ass crack, FM radio is forced to be nothing but ten-song rotations and sports talk simulcasts.

The Clause version is just a stupid rip-off of the original, poorly thought-out. Some marketing company #FastTracker said, "Shit, our first ad was a home run, let's make a holiday version." Everyone loves Mrs. Clause, right? It'll be just as funny- never realizing the same imagination that made the first one so successful quickly turns the discussion to wrinkled, caribou-scented snapper.
