And but for a missed FG, they should have beaten Wisconsin in the Camp this season.

You are killing me how you are bending over backwards to convince yourself this is a good hire.

BB and Anderson are not even close to the same comparison. Asshat was the DC for Wisconsin, he was a Big 10 guy and a Wisconsin guy.

Anderson has spent the last 15 years at different schools in Utah.

Keep trying.

Check his roster. Has players from FL, CA and many other states than Utah. Also has the guy from Nebraska who knows the Midwest, if his staff is indeed coming. I admitted right away, recruiting will be an issue. Need to see who his assistants are. But he has recruited very well.

Come on man, just admit it. This is a questionable hire at best. Now it may turn out great, but a team that has had the success that Wisc has had over the last few years should be able to do much better than a WAC guy from Utah State.

Maybe I don't see Wisconsin being as prestigious as you do. It's not like any real big names were knocking on the door and being turned away by Barry. Just the reality of who Wisconsin is, I guess. Could also have to do with Barry still being around, too.

I think the recent hires by Big 10 schools show that coaches around the country do not have much respect for the Big 10 as far as football goes. I think this is a real bad sign for the conference, we are going to continue the decline in football. The scariest part of all is if this decline continues for another 10-15 years Spanky may end up being right.

The Big 10 will always be inferior to the SEC, but after that, what conference is going to take over football. They will always be the #2/#3 conference in the country. The Big 12 is going to fail. The ACC and Big East are currently failing.

You're not noticing how bad they were before they got there. Technically, his first season when they won 4 games was a success. Won 11 this year.

You're right. It was extremely bad... and he made an irrelevant school relevant. That's not an easy task. This guy could be very good. Alot of it depends on the culture he creates. I personally thought Bielema was a dickbag, but he was a winner.

Same with me. Maragos (former Badger, current Seahawk) said a couple of teammates he plays with now were recruited by Coach A, and that he was the best they'd ever seen. Not sure who he was competing with, lol, but it's still a good sign.

Will be interesting to see what his coaching staff looks like.

Read a lot of positive things about this guy:

Jon McNamara ‏@McNamaraRivals
I'm hearing Utah defensive line Chad Kauha'aha'a told his staff today he's headed to the #Badgers with Gary Andersen.

How does someone have that last name and the first name Chad?

Questionable, ran a spread hybrid:

@CBSSportsBigTen: New #Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen plans to bring along current USU OC Matt Wells, according to @JFowlerCBS #badgers

11-2 would be a nice change of pace after this year.

Apparently Urban wanted him as the OSU DC.

Just get the that tough WAC schedule and you will be set.

Blah blah blah, we get it, you hate that Wisconsin embarrasses Indiana every year. Understood.

I think Bucky has this right. I'm not sure what you expected, RFDC. Ohio State and Michigan are really the only two teams that have the leverage to hire from a very small pool of big name elite college coaches. Just too many schools with VERY deep pockets. I think most Big 10 fans fully understand that the conference is playing second (or third) fiddle to the SEC and Pac-12 these days. And if you're not dOSU or scUM, it's hard to justify to the administration to pay these exhorbitant salaries. I really hope Andersen does well... the guy seems like a very good dude and he's got a great fanbase. I do hope he loses against the Purple.

Good point, Wisconsin is not a top tier team in the Big 10. My mistake.

Whatever they are, I don't think many people would put the HC position in the same group as Michy and OSU. But I'm flattered you would.

The fact that I do not like Wisconsin is not breaking news around here. But I am still amazed at the reaction to this hire. It is like you want to have it both ways. During the season you want Wisc treated as a top tier team. Now during a coaching hire you want them viewed as a middle of the pack average program that shouldn't be expected to get anyone other than a WAC guy with an average record. This is a hire that a team like Minnesota makes, not Wisconsin.

I'm not even sure how you deducted I think they are a top tier team. I hated the team a lot this year. The last 2 years they were really good, but I don't think that elevated the program to elite. And I doubt I said that.

I also think you seriously need to stop using the record. Seriously, go back and look. What he did was nothing short of remarkable. They had won like 4 games in four years before he got there. Hadn't won a bowl game in like 2 decades. His record is not a negative ding on his resume.

What does it take to be a top tier team in the Big 10 then? 3 straight conference titles and 3 straight Rose Bowl appearances? At what point would they be considered a top tier team?

They guy is a good coach who is offensively innovative and retains a nice balance of offensive/defensive quality.
