That makes no sense. Nobody said she couldn't do the job. He said she was the best hygenist he's ever had.

I'm glad that in America we can fire people for no other reason than they make the boss uncomfortable.

Well this one guy in the article sounds like an idiot. But, to counter your point, why should you be forced to work with someone who you are uncomfortable with?

If they were both employees, he could quit. If he was her employee, he could quit. But he's the boss, so, he has no options?

So was she wearing a bag over her head during the interview process or something? Help me out here.

Maybe he wasn't uncomfortable then, but is now. That's not allowed?

Have any of you ever hired anyone? Are you married? Would your wife love the idea of you spending more time than you spend with her, with a hotter younger women, in close quarters? And if you love your wife, would you want that?

I guess I'm asking the wrong people.

Do you realize how backwards and ignorant this sounds?

I guess I'm asking the wrong person.

If it was gonna be an issue, he probably shouldn't have hired an attractive woman in the first place.

Actually no, it shouldn't be allowed. She was the best employee he ever had. That ends any case you want to make for firing her. It's not her fault he was an immoral, wannabe adulterer.

I can't believe the courts have to entertain this nonsense...your boss feels it is best to part ways, find a new job.

Ehh. I don't like that type of reasoning. How far off is that from, "Well I thought I could work with a black guy but he just made me uncomfortable so I had to fire him. But hey, at least I tried, right?"

I don't see how it's the same at all. Sure, someone might have an opinion about someone's race, and society decided that we aren't going to make workplace decisions based on that. So, that makes it okay for society to say that if you feel your marriage is at risk, the hell with you, too bad? I don't think that's a fair comparison.

Too tired to go in detail...all I will say is

1. If your wife thought you and hypothetical black Guy were too close and it was causing problems @ home...you have every right to fire him.

She was a personal assistant. This isn't like GM firing all their women. I don't see how you can force someone to have an assistant they don't want.

Well if he uses the phrase "historically discriminated against" and gets onto some second level Constitutional law hoo-ha he might have a point, but he didn't so I guess that's just me projecting.

So then men can't work with women because they can't control themselves.

Good. Women belong in the kitchen anyway.

Well if you're making the comparison to race, then it falls apart when you suggest he shouldn't have hired her in the first place. Should he not hire a black person in the first place, then?

But that's what the court would have said if they ruled the other way.

I guess it boils down to what level of discrimination we can all be comfortable with.

I don't know, maybe some men can't work closely with an attractive woman. Or maybe it makes the wife uncomfortable. I don't see why such feelings should be illegal.

No, I'm suggesting it not be legal to fire someone for no reason other than you can't control yourself around pretty women.

Now that you mention it, that's a pretty useful tool: "You can't sue me! I just can't work with blacks/queers/women because I find them all too attractive."

What if you can control yourself, but it makes you uncomfortable and affects your work and your marriage? You work there everyday. You can't quit.
