All this crap about if they make the playoffs, Lovie keeps his job, etc.!!!!

A real GM has already decided Lovies fate and has his list of new coaches ready to go and is working on gauging their interest! The guy has been here for 8 years! I dont think 2 games v shit teams are the barometer!

Fact is this Bears team got worse as the season went on.

I am already cringing the presser at which Phil Emery says he will start working on a new coach right away! When he should know who is coming in and when!

That Todd Haley connection looks sooooo Bear like! WR Coach for the Bears! Head coach in KC when Emery was director of scouting in KC, now in Pitt as OC...which the Bears family love anyone in Pitt. An offense minded coach with a Bears connection...not many on the planet!

Emery knew fromday 1 milkdud was not his Guy, he just needed some ammo to bring to ownership to justify it....he has it now....unless the bears win a playoff game....Haley is garbage, Pitt sucks...their offense blows...n he was a bad coach for kc.

Exactly right. Emery knows that what hes got is a big pile of steaming mediocrity, & while Todd Haley has got to be the favorite to replace Lovie, I'm not convinced that Phillips & the McClaskeys will let him fire Lovie.

Where does this awful idea that Todd Haley is the favorite start?

There is no way Emery is that dumb. Haley was horrible in KC. He has been horrible in Pitts. No way in the world Emery picks him as the guy to take over for Lovie. But if somehow he is that stupid, I will be riding shotgun on IB's bandwagon for firing Emery.

I would rather have Jerry Angelo butchering drafts and the English language than Phil Emery hiring Todd Haley because they worked together once on a shitty team.

I don't think Lovie is getting fired, though.

Except, it's crap that's currently going down. The D stands up and scores a few TDs. Cutler and co. manage to suck less for a game or so. All is forgiven.

And I'll join you two. Haley would be an ignorant hire. I already have my doubts on the new GM.

And Haugh just said yesterday's win went a long way to securing Lovie's job security. This will play out in a totally Bears way. Beat 2 crap teams to make the playoffs, lose in round 1 and keep the coach, thereby delaying the inevitable coaching change.

I hope you are correct, but Emery is here for the same reason Haley might end up here. McCaskeys knew him.

Roethlisberger doesn't like Haley at all. He is still pissed they got rid of Ariens. Pitt offense has been bad.

Hiring Haley would be a huge mistake. I would love to see Emery go after a couple of the experienced and successful high profile coaches, like Payton and Gruden, and put pressure on Philips and the McClaskeys to hire one of them.

Who is milkdud?

I think that's a reference to Lovie's chocolate dome, so to speak.

While the "Fire Lovie" chorus has been loud and consistent for most of the season (even when the team was winning games) what hasn't been heard as loudly or consistently is the accompanying song that goes with hiring a new coach, rebuilding. Smith gives Emery the needed cover to rebuild the team on the fly without having to face the music of a team not winning. I doubt the same people calling for Smith's firing are looking forward to the 2013 season with the understanding and patience that the team needs new and better talent to go along with a new coach and his system. An organization like the Bears doesn't go out and acquire top name talent to run their team, they're not looking for someone who may become bigger than the organization. They look to promote someone with the understanding that this new coach is getting one of only 32 jobs, and that it is an opportunity for that person to forge their identity and their own history.

Ask yourselves, was Emery the first choice you had in mind for the GM job? When hired did you believe he was the best choice? Emery is like his predecessor, and his predecessor's predecessor. Not an established GM, not even on the staff of a Super Bowl champion. That he was once a part of the Bears organization was probably his strongest suit, perhaps because he understands how the organization works. A family run organization doesn't care to hear about billionaires and their largesse, they don't even care to hear about how other family's run their organizations.

The prudent and frugal approach is to stay the course and get a return on the near five-million owed Smith. To start retooling the team and see if Smith has the desire to ride it out or if his time truly has come. To start the process, hopefully via the draft, of making the team younger without having too much of a drop in talent. If Smith is their man, then expectations (and the frustrations of many) will remain high. If he isn't then everyone will need to adjust accordingly and the question of how much change comes into play will need to be addressed. A discussion for another time.

I think Emery has already made up his mind and the former scout will concentrate on why he was hired, to get talent. On the field talent.

My source indicates that large-scale conclusions have been drawn.
