I think why people get frustrated with him is because there are plays he looks so great, even whole series where we see his potential and on the next series he looks only slightly better than my dead grandmother would.

Or to put it bluntly one series he looks like Joe Montana and the next series Hannah Montana.

We see what he can do and we get frustrated when he doesn't do it. We never got frustrared with guys like Orton because we knew he couldn't do better than what he did.

Are you sure about this? I've never heard this theory before.

What I find to be more frustrating is that the focus is more on the 1-for-11 start not the 11-for-15 rebound.
His first pass completion might have been the most important offensive play of the game for the Bears: third and eight for 20-plus yards to Marshall.
I'll still think Marshall made the catch on the call that was overturned. The call is reversed because Marshall didn't secure the possession -- might have had something to do with the PI by Peterson (grabbing Brandon's arm before the ball made it there).

I don't recall a single pass of Cutler's being that great yesterday. It was the usual mix of over/underthrows, routine short passes, and jump balls that Marshall somehow comes down with. (What was the stat they mentioned yesterday -- that Marshall has 90 more catches than the next highest receiver on the Bears?)

Of course, he looked awesome compared to the garbage that Arizona put out there...

No, it's frustrating because he's been in the league 7 years and the best thing you can say is that two or three times a game he makes a really good throw. The problem is there are about 20 other QB's in the league who can make two or three really good throws in a game too, many of whom are younger and less experienced with more upside.

If Orton was still here and having the exact same season he'd be rightfully cut in the offseason. Cutler will be asking for big money and the Bears either have to start over or cross their fingers that Jay Cutler finally figures it out and we can go from "Wow, what a good throw!" to "Wow, what a good game!" more often.

He wouldn't be having the exact same season. Not with this supporting cast.

Let's extend Brick some Christmas mercy. This whole deal with his Jets and Tebow has really taken a toll on him.

He probably would be. Numbers wise, Cutler is having a season virtually identical to Ortons last year here, and there is no reason to think this team is less talented than that one. Brandon Marshall alone probably makes this team more talented.

I don't understand this post, but that is ok. I have no problem dealing with hypotheticals. I do it a lot.

You'd be bashing bigfan if he made a response like this.

Cutler > Orton
Bears are 8-8 at best with Orton on this team.

Cutler is better than Orton, but we know Orton is capable of putting up these type of numbers. I still haven't seen you explain why this offense is worse than what Orton had his last year here. The line wasn't that good back then either, since you know, the next year, everyone said "The offensive line sucks, Jay has no time to throw!".

The fact is that Cutlers numbers are pretty much what you'd predict Orton to have on any team in the league besides the two or three teams, like Arizona, that no one could succeed with. That's the point.

Also, the argument is not who is better. Cutler is better. It's that if Orton was out there putting up the exact same numbers there is virtually no chance Orton would be on the team after the season, even at a cheaper price. Take a look at Carson Palmer. He's far outperforming Cutler, but he's going to be either cut or need to take a major pay cut in order to stay in Oakland.

That is interesting.

I know some people think I root against the Bears, but I'm really scared of the Bears being in a can't win situation here. Keep Cutler and hope that all of a sudden things click or get rid of Cutler and deal with the growing pains of a new quarterback and offensive system. I just think one of these years with Cutler we'll actually require a QB to throw for 300+ yards more than about 1.75 times a season which is what he's done here so far.

Well you definitely can't resign him to big money. I had already conceded that much. It will be interesting to see, if the team really does bring in a bright offensive mind, and the offense gets revamped, what we'll see out of Cutler. Or if the new coach pulls a McDaniels and says no thanks, gotta get someone different at QB.

Actually its been clarified he said "Funny face" and frankly the guy is rather funny looking. Not ugly but every single guy I've met in this group is at least equal to him in looks. And while I like the guy there have been times where you might be a better QB.
