Ghetto may not be the correct term, but it would be hard to say something positive about where i spent my childhood now. I cringe when I drive past Barrington and Irving Park intersection.

You don't like Bungalow Joe's ?

JORR- you are spot on with Chiggy's. Excellent gyros.

Have you ever worn hats or is this something you started once you hit 26?

Most hats used to come fairly flat and you had to bend them

Is that not possible with these hats?

Side note: If you wear a fedora (and your younger than 50), your opinion on hats is to be completely dismissed

So Billy Dec's opinion is useless? I think he has that fucking hat spot welded to his head.

Rick Nielson and Angus Young get a pass, only because it is part of their respective stage personas.

I wore New Era caps when I was a teenager. I shopped at Lids a lot when I got my first job at 17. I started dressing completely different once I hit 20 and got out into the grownup work force. I gave all my hats away.

Wow. People actually buy hats from this place? I always assumed this was a place like Brookstone, where people walk through to get ideas on things to buy without overpaying.

I bought some of these after the World Series last year, and what really bothered me about them wasn't that the bill was flat (this can be easily corrected as many have pointed out) but that the logo on the front of the hat is slightly offset...wear the hat with the center of the bill facing directly forward and the logo is a touch off to the side of the cap...

The two hats I purchased for my nephew were $25 each, and they had a buy one, get one half off deal. So I didn't think it was overpriced. I didn't check what the adult sized hats were priced at, but they had the same deal.

You'd pay something ~$60 for the 2 hats then.

For an adults, yes...

...but fitted youth MLB caps, which I believe is what he was buying, are listed at 25 on the MLB shop...so I'm not sure how him paying 25 bucks is overpaying.

If you don't use a coupon code on mlb.com you are overpaying too.

Lids is about as expensive as you can get for hats. It's possible to find a way to not overpay, but in general, if you just walked into a Lids every time you wanted a hat you'd pay significantly more over the long run.

I got my hat at the Champs Sports in Woodfield, the one tucked away in the weird little middle floor. Surely paid too much there.

I get multiple free hats each year for coaching little league.

There is almost no person in the US whose family origins in this country do not begin with living in a ghetto. It is a word, like "fact", that seems to have lost its meaning.

Meanings of words change all the time. "Gay" meant happy in the early twentieth century. I am sure you would not use it that way now. Then it meant homosexual and is still used that way, but it is now also used as a pejorative meaning stupid or idiotic.

When someone uses the word "ghetto" to describe a style of dress or an automobile or a dwelling, etc., they obviously aren't attempting to evoke thoughts of Anne Frank or some little Czech girl or Polish boy in Pilsen circa 1910.

It's important for a person to understand all the uses of the term in order to be precise and in order to avoid looking ignorant. Using ghetto in that manner is imprecise especially when there are many great words to describe cheap or low class that don't attach a racial component.

Ghetto certainly doesn't have a racial meaning attached to it, especially when you consider the original inhabitants of ghettos.

Ghetto does not even mean poor. It's people of a same kind all bunched together. However, the way it is used most commonly today it most certainly has a racial connotation.

I think it started with Juan Pierre and the D Train down in Miami.
