Well, Michael told Carlo that he could run things in Vegas before they strangled him in the car.

The callers are a very small part of the listening audience. All of us listeners can't be dumb, can we? Well I can, but everyone?!?

1. Take the afternoon show if you can get it...not the day off. Try to keep up.
2. Then you are not listening to transition everyday...
3. I just want to read his book.
4. O.k.
5. Is it more money? None of us really know...North was making a shit ton of cash to do a crappy morning show.

Somebody said Bernstein has been nicer in recent months. I disagree. He's meaner than ever. Maybe that's cuz he knows his time might be coming to an end so he's taking it out on everybody. Like I said, same with drinky. The last few months he's been an angry, mean, son of a bitch as well. Drinky enjoys the safety of Bernstein's nest. Yeah, he wants more, but it's still a living and easy work producing the B&B show. He's allowed to be an ass hat under Bernstein's protection and really doesn't have to do much of anything. Drinky would be nervous if he doesn't have Bernstein's protection. As much as drinky hates Bernstein, he needs him to survive in the radio world.

Did anyone hear him when he went on a solo warpath the day after Christmas?

I have never heard him so negative, mean, and bitter. . . no, wait: it was almost like that one day that Kid recorded - just short of that in terms of apparent exasperation and disgusted tone. He came off like he was pissed that he got called into work that day. .. took it out on virtually each and every caller, and it seemed like the fill-in producer was feeding him stooges to toss. It could have been a big put-on, but I doubt it.

He sounded very frustrated. Maybe it was a power play by management to purposely belittle him and show him his place by having him come in when all the other "bigs" were off. I dunno - were any other regulars in that day?

No. He's Jewish. Christmas week means shit to him. If given the chance, Bernstein would piss on every nativity scene in America. :( His vacation time is his vacation time. Score guys get Christmas off like everybody else, but they choose take the week off like a lot of people. It goes to their vacation time. They're not just given that week off. They choose to use their vactaion time. Bernstein doesn't. So I don't think that's an issue. Bernstein could have taken it off if he wanted. But I do think he's been more of a mean bitch in recent weeks cuz something is bugging him. Maybe it's his contract talks.

1. Oh
2. True. I check out the podcasts when people say there's a Spiegel-Bernstein war. Spiegle always loses.
3. It won't be good.
4. Looks like I won that one. Just sayin' that drinky needs to learn how to play nice with others. His shit flies on B&B but he's gonna find that nobody in the work place likes a constant cocky, whinny, bitch with an attitude problem. He thinks he knows it all when he really doesn't know much of anything. Drinky is too old to behave this way. It's no longer cute after a certain age. Don't you think everybody would like to bitch and cry all the time at work? Some people have self control. He's lacking.
5. Yes. Afternoons and mornings would be more money than midday. That's always the case in radio.

Bingo. I have said this time and time again..

ESPN doesn't bother to put on a quality show during the afternoon drive time. When they had Mac they were killing it and dominating that timeslut. Mac gets kicked off his MJH show and then suddenly ESPN is in 2nd place.

This is something the ALS doesn't consider.

The truth can be a scary thing.

the question remains as to what show ESPN could put on that would compete.

Not to mention that this Zimmerman could be the guy to say he got rid of North and Bernstein (two highly paid talents) and his station went on to become more profitable because of it. It already worked after North's departure. If he does it again, that's something big to put on his resume. A bold move that not a lot of other PDs would do cuz it's not the safe move. A lot of them don't like to take risks. This might get the attention of his bosses in New York. Maybe a promotion for him. Maybe he'll become a CBS TV executive. With his skills, he could be the guy to low ball their news division and sitcom/drama show actors.

Zimmerman didn't get rid of North. North left on his own volition.

I think somebody here said that those negotiations, while North eventually turned down an offer, were basically a force out. They showed no confidence in him, offered him a one year deal at a big pay cut and probably weren't gonna extend him after that. Zim probably knew a fool like North would walk and that's what he wanted him to do all along. A passive aggressive firing, if you will.

He played North against North. He banked on North being stupid. Cuz he knew he was stupid.

I'm channel surfing when I wake up, and I see Mike North on Mancow's new TV show on FOX-owned My50. Since when were both of these frauds relevant?

When was the last time both of them were relevant at the same time? 1999, probably? I can't even think of the last time channel 50 was relevant. Probably when they showed Three Stooges on Sunday nights, which was like 1996.

Negotiating and squeezing radio talent isn't the Herculean acheivement you're painting it to be.

CH, Mancow may still originate his "Morning Madhouse" from Chicago, but he doesn't have a local radio home carrying his show since the former Q101 dropped him a few years ago. As for North, he's got a Sunday night show via FOX Sports Radio that airs on 560 WIND. As for My50 in general, that's a good point by you, especially since FOX Television Stations bought the station, I think about 5 years ago.

If they didn't put every dip shit on the radio the show would infinatly better.

Matty says that they don't put the dopes on intentionally but I would bet dollar to donut that
is how they want it.

Take out all the Meatball asshole calls that the Ranger has to take and his show is 100 times more listenable.

KEEP DUMBSHITS OFF THE AIR!!!!!!!!

It's not just Ranger's "Xfinity Postgame" on The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network and "B & B" that feature meatball callers. The show that follows "B & B" also features callers that don't know what in the hell they're talking about. It's the same one whose host shamelessly plugs NBC5 & constantly mentions meteorologist Cheryl Scott. You know the one.

I don't believe it either...at least not the 5 yrs part. Even if it were accurate, then @ $700,000 North was taking a very large pay cut (>50% if previous estimates were correct), making the key portion of the original post factual.
KS - Do you think that in retrospect North realizes he made a mistake by not taking the Score's offer?

Keeping Score would have said the same thing about North months before he eventually got axed.

Keeping Score: That's true.

You were here Beardown, so you know darn well that isn't true.

The only commotion North ever caused here was the RodeoVann incident. Other than that, the last couple years of the MNMS - as far as this board was concerned - was largely ignored. The only people that even posted in that forum were Belvidere and a few mults who started a thread every other day about how much North sucks. Nobody else cared.

And even with that sort of apathy, North was still offered a huge contract to return. Don't forget, it was North who chose to not come back.

All that said, B&B remain the most popular local sports show amongst boardies as witnessed here:

http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=75846

 M&S is winning that poll

Wasn't North earning about $1.5 million before he turned down The SCORE's rumored pay cut? He was actually one of Chicago radio's highest paid personalities along with The Mix's Eric Ferguson & Kathy Hart, the now unemployed Eddie Volkman & Joe Bohannon & 720 WGN Radio's Jonathon Brandmeier before turning down what I thought was an $800,000 offer or a $350,000 pay cut.

That is why I mentioned a bonus clause. He gets the 350 IF his ratings reach a certain number.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it went.

Mike was guaranteed the first 13 weeks of his contract. And nothing else. Mike North's fucking of himself has gone down in radio history like the Lou Brock trade did in baseball.

Shortly after Mike left radio ratings went from a written diary, to the more accurate electronic style of tracking listeners. North's ratings would have risen instantaneously with the first book.

North made Zimmerman a radio legend for what he pulled off.

The days of big money for local hacks at the Score are over with the national programming. If Rome has a slot, thats less money for local talent in the budget. Mac is lucky that Bernsies contract came up at the bad time.

Plus who says Fatpants goes with Mac? Heavy Fuel Crew reunion, and let Fatpants do the filler 2 hours in midday.
