Tice was running the offense that Lovie wanted him to. Bates wanted to do other stuff, and Cutler/Marshall sided with him. If you launch Tice, Bates and Lovie will not get along at all. Bates is a brash young guy with a snotty attitude. You think that will fly with Lovie?

Oh jesus fucking christ, where is all this optimism for Jeremy fucking Bates coming from on this board?

I don't have any optimism for him, but if Tice goes and Lovie stays, he's the only option. No one else would take that job.

It's also possible that he could see the untenability of the situation and turn down the job. That's how we got Mike Martz!

I'm not saying he will be the second coming of Bill Walsh or anything, but he can't be worse and/or more bland as far as play calling and play design than Mike Tice, can he?

Wasn't that what people were saying about Tice last year? He couldn't be any worse than Martz.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Norv Turner hired as OC.

If I'm interviewing for the next head coach I don't take the job if my offensive coordinator is predetermined because the QB and WR like him.

Sorry,Irish Boy. I have a real problem with my Lord's name used to curse. I can be teased and laughed at now,but THAT is one phrase I never use. I'm not a good Catholic either.

I feel like we've said that for several consecutive offensive coordinators now, or some variation thereof.

I'm not saying you don't fire Tice. Of course you fire Tice. I'd fire him, hire him back, and then fire him again. I just don't get where the confidence in Jeremy Bates: Wunderkind seems to come from with Bears fans. Is it because Cutler likes him?

It reminds me of the Emery support, although at least with Emery I get that we are stuck with him so we might as well hope he's not as horrifically awful as his record indicates. But we can dream about any OC we want right now. Let's dream bigger dreams than Jeremy Bates.

I'd have no problem with Norv as OC. But 1.) we've fired his brother before, and 2.) if there's a new head coach, he has to make that decision.

Like Spike Bartz!!

This thing is a mess. A way bigger mess than anybody maybe except you imagined back in the middle of October. "I could see the Bears being 2-14 next year" (or in 2014, forgot exactly how you phrased that). I laughed when I first read it. Now I see it as a real possibility :?

All those years of Ron Turner and the stale crumbs of Mike Martz will make anyone look like a young up-and-coming mastermind.
