Oh boy, our hero Beerstain has gotta be wetting himself; whether it's pointing out the team's DEFENSIVE excellence during Lovie's tenure, pointing out the 5/6 playoff misses (as opposed to Zaidman's 2/3 double-digit-wins seasons) and reiterating the point that they're playing for CHAMPIONSHIPS, I reckon we're looking at a "kiss my ass Tuesday" if he comes in today, cuz the talking point about "a 90 year old woman and her family" not having anything more than a ceremonial "OK" in this decision is just begging to be driven home.

Emery wants a high energy guy, someone to fire up the building.... ruh oh, we got dangerously close to DA FIRE AND DA PASHIN! Nooooo phil! Your Peter Davison-era "brainy specs" are better than meatballism! =D

Everything Emery said he's looking for in a head coach is everything Lovie is not.

Wrong attitude.

Why not let a new coach do what the fuck HE wants? Putting a restriction like that automatically rules out top-level coaching talent. Stoopid. :?

Yea, you misunderstood. That was directly related to him being asked if they would switch to a 3-4.

It's also the right thing to say to the players/coaches right now. No reason to say otherwise.

John Connor could send a few guys back in time to help circumvent the rise of Rick Telander's machines.

A Bears presser in which direct questions are being answered with thoughtful, intelligent and concise answers... I need a minute to pinch myself.

Hard not to be impressed. Sounds like a man with a clear plan. Sounds like he is in complete charge. Love how he detailed why he made the draft picks he did last last year.

He keeps referring to Atlanta - this could be his template.

wow, this dude's up there and ready to talk some shit. he's got talking points.... he's giving five minute answers chock full of his track record, rationale, and all this and that.... the brainy specs are indeed on!

Synergy; the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.; synergism.

He kept saying it so I had to Google it.

i have exited this press conference with more confidence that phil emery will make a good choice at head coach than i had when i entered it. ergo, i think it's pretty safe to say that phil emery "won" this press conference. that will surely be one of beerstain's talking points, and i'm pretty sure i heard j-hood beat him to the punch during a brief little intermission up the dial in mouseland.

jolly good show!

Emery sounds like he knows exactly who/what he is looking for in a head coach. He will probably know within 15 minutes of the interview if the guy even has a chance.

God, Zaidman is still carrying the water for Lovie. Does he know that Lovie doesn't work where he works anymore?

"Players played so hard for him." Okay, this is parroted by everyone, but it's exactly the kind of unquantifiable meatball bullshit that would be dismissed out of hand if the coach were Jim Harbaugh or Mike Ditka or any screamy white coach. Isn't it to be presumed that professional football players are, more often than not and for a number of reasons, playing as hard as they can?

Phil Emery sounds a lot like Jerry Angelo in his manner of speaking, but with a functioning brain and a plan. If you listened carefully, he really thought Lovie was a piece of shit with regards to handling the media and having a sense of urgency.

I like Emery a lot.

I liked most of what he had to say, but it was clear that he wants to win now. Meaning no major changes. No total rebuild. Limits what the new coach can do. Obviously Cutler has to stay. Same with the core defense guys.

early on i think the subtle digs were by emphasizing that the team was DEFENSIVELY great for much of Lovie's tenure. he made it a point to obliquely say that they were DEFENSIVELY elite a good handful of times. he never said that they were a good/great football team, but a good/great DEFENSIVE team.

later on, the stuff that comes to mind is phil pointing out that he wants his next coach to "have energy" and "get everyone in the building pumped up" and then he mentioned his next coach needing "a sense of urgency" a few times. the cherry on top of all of this was saying that his next coach needs to be good/better with the media. pretty passive/aggro, as the presser predictably started off with a heaping helping of praise for lovie, but then you had to make some low-level inferences in order to get the actual criticism of lovie, as he never came out and said "lovie didn't do [this that or the other] well enough" but he did pretty much spell it out by talking about the pre-requisites for his next coach, which spoke volumes without directly saying anything about lovie.

Thanks Sini. Definitely some not-so-subtle digs at Lovie... especially the media part.
