Are you the type that buys a good movie on DVD and watches it over and over? I'm not.

Agreed. Not sure the Bears organization knows how to accomplish that though.

They lucked into a good coach with Lovie after failing to get Saban and others.

The Eagles found out what happens when you keep a coach who is good but doesn't win it all for too long. Lovie would have seen a decline too going forward.

It's not that Lovie is a bad coach. He's a good coach and he'll be good somewhere else. The results just aren't good with coaches in one place 10+ years with no Super Bowls won. Cowher is the notable exception, but his teams were almost always elite before they won the title.

No because AMC and FX shows The Shawshank Redemption about 5 or 6 times a month.

Lovie isn't terrible...despite what even I've said in the past due to frustration. As I explained to a co-worker earlier, I view him as an okay 'Point C to Point B' coach. But he isn't getting you to Point A.

If he could have gotten a real offensive coordinator after firing Turner (or instead of hiring Turner if you want to go back that far) I think he would have been fine. We aren't privy to all of the circumstances surrounding his inability to get a decent OC at that time, but if he was willing to get a good OC, and the contract situation surrounding him and Angelo didn't present an obstacle for a new OC, I believe he would still be here and most would be happy with his performance.

If he was the major reason for the full ineptitude of the Bears not getting a good OC, he needed to go. I would agree in full with your statement. Maybe a little less so.

You should start working on a "Lovie Come Back" youtube video for next year, then.

That was the scuttlebutt, but I don't think anyone really knows if that was true or not. I don't know anyone who has a true source that can be trusted.

But Lovie's projected decline would have been the result of years of bad drafting, no? It's not as though Lovie's coaching was about to drop off, correct?

In my opinion, Emery was correct in firing Lovie for the implied/stated reason that he possesses no knowledge of offensive football, a fact demonstrated throughout his coaching tenure with the Bears.

A bunch of people on this board have been making that argument for the past couple of years.

Mulligan reported at the time of Turner's firing that Lovie wanted Martz, but Angelo was blocking the move.

  But see, I don't think that was a sanctioned "source". Mulligan might as well be Biggs. Can't trust him.

You don't need an inside source to know after lovie went to the sb as the lowest paid coach in the NFL, he got a new deal with more power. Every coach hired/fired after that was solely on lovie...and he had plenty of input on free agent pickups n drafting.

Correct. I don't think Lovie was poised to be a worse coach, but with how fast the NFL moves having the same coach for 10+ years is a mistake unless it's a Super Bowl winning coach. I think a change works out well for Lovie and the Bears.

If he's smart, he picks a good situation. One thing is clear. He needs a really good offensive coordinator.

Do you think you could figure out how NFL offenses work after nine years? I think I could.

Don't let Lovie anywhere near a OC hire. Be a grown ass GM. By the time the Bears become an offensive team the pendulum may swing back to D.

But what team is a "good situation"? All the openings are at bad teams, and lovie has shown he has a hard time making smart hires.

I'd sit out a year if I was him. Maybe he'd do some television.

Dallas, Detroit, and Carolina will probably be available next year.

I tend to agree here. I think if I was Lovie the only job I would consider would be San Diego, maybe KC. But other than that I would take my money from the Bears relax for a year and come back next year.

Lovie come back,
Any kind of fool could see,
There was football
In everything about you

Lovie come back,
You can blame it all on Z,
Phil was wrong,
And we just can't live without you

And the suicide rate skyrockets around the country. He makes Tony Dungy look animated.
