Not sorry to see him go. One year deal. Will be traded before August. Rangers 3rd place in 13.

It's always good to have 3 threads in which to discuss a topic. Gives you a variety.

Alright, that's enough guys...

I agree Belvidere. A.J. will not duplicate the season he had last year and I'm still of the belief that he had some, uh, help throughout the year. Tyler Flowers was inoffensive at catcher. He'll be fine. That position is the least of the Sox' worries. I'd like to know how much A.J.'s getting though. Since it's Texas, chances are they grossly overpaid for him.

Really surprised he only got 1 year on the open market.

There's more to the story.

Unfortunately, I don't know what it is. Maybe they don't like the way he works with young pitchers. On the surface it makes no sense why they would run him out of town.

He's 36, he's a catcher, really surprised at 1 year deal?

AJ is a player that will be missed by the Sox more than people realize, and it has nothing to do with his offense.

Flowers whiffs as much as Dunn. should make for a dynamic offense.

I tend to agree.

Very surprised a guy with 27 HRs only got 1 year, bigfan. I thought he would get a least 2, and that some stupid team (Boston) might give him 3.

Soriano had 30/100 last year and the Cubs can't give him away.

Why are you laughing? Both same age. Both similar stats. Both are basically DH's. You are saying you can't believe that AJ didn't get a two year deal. Soriano has two years left on his contract, and the Cubs said they will pay pretty much all of it, and no one will take him. So why would you think people would want to give AJ two years?

I'm laughing because you're an idiot to compare a left handed free ajent catcher who signed a $7.5 million deal to a terrible defensive outfielder who is guaranteed $36 million over the next 2 years.

Also, San Francisco by all accounts was ready to deal for him last season, but Soriano wouldn't waive his no trade clause. So yeah.

 I wrote a whole thing explaining how you don't understand, but I'm not even going to attempt to explain. I forgot having a discussion with you is pointless.

I wrote a thing explaining why you are an idiot and I didn't even get into how many times Soriano has been on the DL.

The guy is a 36 year-old CATCHER.

Under normal circumstances, a guy of that age and performance level would get at least a two year deal. That's why there is more to the story. Maybe everyone thinks he's on PEDs or I dunno what. Suspicious. :?:

1) AJ is not a catcher just like Soriano is not a LF. They are DH's.
2) The Cubs are willing to eat $26M of Sorianos remaining contract, meaning the team who acquires him would owe him $10M for two seasons (less per year than AJ is now making in his new contract).
3) Soriano has played in more game each of the last three seasons than AJ.

So you obviously think AJ is so much more valuable than Soriano. I think they are similar value-wise. That is why I posted the comment that if a team won't trade for Soriano than why would they sign AJ to a 2 yr deal?

I think the reported offer of 4 million for one year from the Sox was insulting. The Sox obviously did not want him. I think they will regret the decision.

Mr. Big Chicagoan made an apt comparison.

Thanks for the memories AJ.

+1

cant keep a guy that had his career year at that age and cant throw. Especially for that money. But Flowers isnt the answer either. He will take over the nine spot by June if not from the start if Bacon is #2 opening day.

I was high on him a couple of years ago. I was wrong. He will hit .199 with 12 HRs and 27 RBI's. He will platoon with some other yet to be named #2 catcher by July.
