Jurk's little brother Mirko is in his final hours. I was with the Good Kid and his family and friends for a little while this morning in Mishawaka, where John has been camped out at little bro's bedside since Tuesday. Cancer, which Mirko had put into remission about two years ago, returned last month and has not relented.

Mirko Jurkovic is 42... with a wife and children. He has been successful in business (Stryker Medical), following an All American career at Notre Dame. He was a freshman on ND's National Championship team in 1988 and was drafted by the Bears in '92. He'd made plans to be with many former teammates and friends in Miami for the championship game.

Both John and Mirko are truly salt-of-the-earth guys. Nothing pretentious. No "fake friends." Just a couple of neighborhood kids from Cal City, who still call their best buddies the same ones they grew up with. Many of them were there today. That was inspiring...on an otherwise very, very sad morning a few miles East of the ND campus.

Very sad to hear. Cancer sucks.

True .... very sad .... but also perhaps heartening in a way .... but for now, definitely clouded over by the situation .... hopefully in time it brings a smile when remembered.

Mac, I think we all share our sympathies with you for your pain in this situation .... not an immediate familial connection like poor Jurko, but the pain of a friend can bring much sorrow and heartache as well. Most sad to see, sir. Be well.

Yeesh. I hate that Jurko had to post that. Feel bad for him. I hope Mac's post here didn't create the confusion. I know his intentions were good, but sometimes you have to respect privacy.

Jurko told Carmen and Harry to mention it on air, so he's obviously fine with everyone knowing.

It was a tweet from Notre Dame Nation that said he died tonight. Jurk corrected it soon after.

My thoughts & prayers go out to Jurko & his Family. I remember the day that Mac had Mirko on the air with him & he was great. He was a great down to earth guy, just like his Brother. I lost my Brother unexpectedly in 2008 at the age of 45. It sucks.
