Is Netflix your main thing? Or do you have Amazon Prime? I have a fire and I'm not sure if heavy gaming would work.

Just got the ASUS, I think if you are Droid based, you have to go that way...or Ipad if Iphone based...can get the 7 inch ones as well for comparable price to the Kindle...

Kindle was good too...looked hard at it...in the end, spent the extra $$$ for the nicer tablet...

In my house we have an ipad and a kindle fireHD.
For the price, the kindle words well. That's what I use and I have no problems with it. I can play all the games I have on my iphone and if you have an amazon prime account you can do all the streaming of the shows/movies they have in their library for free. However if you want a bigger screen, (and to be cool) go with the ipad.

I have a droid phone and no apple products.

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Tab might be the best route. Im reading that it does all the kindle does but has better browsing

Yeah, not cool enough for an IPad

So its pretty much Kindle vs. Samsung vs. Google

I got my wife a Kindle but we grew to regret it -- there are many apps that won't run on amazon's version of android. So we ended up having our son put the regular android operating system on it. Now it is terrific.

As for me, I got a Google Nexus 7 and love it.

I stayed away from the bigger tablets -- I wanted something small, portable and primary for reading.

Have Droid phone, was kinda cool once I registered my gmail account, everything loaded on the tablet as well.

Asus also has Keyboard attachement you can buy if you start really using it.

The Samsung Galaxy is nice, I almost bought one for Mrs. Scorehead at Costco when they had them for $100 off before X-Mas. I bought her an IPad ll instead. She loves it. $399 at The Mart.

I'm a big fan of the Droid, but for a tablet no one ever regrets getting an Ipad. It may be more expensive but it's one of the greatest pieces of technology around with better games.

For a phone, I'd go with a droid, but for a tablet I'd stick with an iPad.

Rumors are a new iPad may drop in March, meaning that in February and March the current version could be even more discounted.

we have the 16gb iPad without the 3G and it's fucking awesome. We fight over the damn thing. GF has her iTunes account linked to it. We also bought AppleTV ($100) as well so we can link the iTunes Desktop, iPad, and AppleTV. It's similar to PS3 or XBOX applications, but now the iTunes data and iPad are accessible. The iPad then acts as a "remote" while the images are on the t.v..
so, you can watch you videos, camera roll, listen to you iTunes library, etc. We use iBooks, play games. I can use it as a remote for the television through Xfinity...

It's pretty fucking sweet.

Google Nexus 7 works great for the processes you've described. Very fast with a great screen. Netflix, YouTube, skype, surfing, etc.

Thanks for input. Probably gonna buy the Galaxy Tablet from my co worker. Ill get him down to 120.

The thing is I have ZERO apple products. I dont use Itunes. I dont use an Ipod and I dont have an Iphone, so I feel like the Ipad might not be the best for me.

You can use an iPad very easily without ever using another Apple product or installing iTunes.

Really?

Ok. Well the I pad is gonna be about 80$ (40%) more expensive. Not sure its worth it. Gonna borrow the tablet from the guy for a couple days and see how it works

Yeah. It's a self contained unit now.

iTunes is normally the easiest way to get music to it though. I don't use mine for music though. I'd rather use my phone for that.

All the apps are just downloaded through the app store.

Most tablets are like that now. They are all designed to not really need a computer.

I am pretty sure you still need to create an iTunes account though...

Yeah, thanks. She has enough Leap Frog stuff. Leap Frog is a bottomless well of add ons.

I just want her to be able to use it on road trips for Angry Birds or Where's my water etc

Of course you do, but that's done right on the tablet for billing. You have to do the same thing for android I believe if you want to download apps.

My nephews and nieces couldn't get enough of that on Christmas...I'd guess that at any one time we had at least 3 iOS devices running that.

DO NOT buy the board game based on the app.

I saw it for 20 bucks and bought it thinking it would be a nice throw in but it truly sucks. Worst game ever.

You may be right.

Hopefully RZA will expand to the Droid network

I couldn't give any opinion of much value on any other tablets. Don't own any, and haven't spent much time with them. I played with the $199 Galaxy in the store and it looked like it had pretty much everything most people would need in a tablet. My wife has the Mini, but I'm not sure the cost is worth it over the Nexus.

We own 3 iPads, and I don't have anything bad to say about them . The biggest props I can give is that my 3 year old has been using our iPad 1 religiously and he hasn't broken it.
