Does anybody remember Mike McCaskey fired Ditka and than decided to go skiing? The longer you wait to hire a coach, the more quality asst. coaches are taken up by other teams. The problem might be the Bears are losing in THAT area of building a new staff.

Probably tough to hire someone who is still coaching during the playoffs.

BC is right. If the Bears don't talk to the likes of Packers' OC Tom Clements, Broncos' OC Mike McCoy or other guys currently in the NFL Playoffs by the middle of this week, they're off limits until that team is eliminated. I think that is the rule.

yes by all means just hire someone, anyone.

Forget about hiring the right guy and just hire a guy.

Don't worry, Pasta. Trestman will bring a bunch of guys in from the CFL. We're set.

The CFL is a league where you're awarded one point for punting for a touchback. Frankly, I'm surprised the Bears didn't raid this league sooner.

Forget about the Redskins O coordinator. Go for their head coach. I hear he's good at handling QB's.

Let's not forget Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon. He was a CFL guy himself.

OK..OK..Maybe I'm a little early with this thread BUT if the Bronco's go to the SB and the Bears hire McCoy,it will be interesting who he brings in. I still say I'd be fine with Gruden or Billick. Emery talking to about 15 guys sounds more like a dog & pony show than an actual earnest search. A good GM should always have a small group of names, just in case.

It's not the BIGGEST name ,it's the PROVEN name. I think of the Bears last 4 HC,only Jack Pardee had HC expierience. It would be nice to try the other road.

Pasta

That was over 35 years (and 6 coaches ago). That includes the 2 most successful coaches in team history not named George Halas. Proven names aren't all they're cracked up to be. I think Andy Reid is going to fail miserably in Kansas City. How many coaches have truly been successful on their second, third, or fourth etc stop anyway? For every Belicheck, you are going to have 5 Romeo Crennels.

Let Emery take his time. Make sure it's the right fit for the team. And if he blows the hire, we can bitch all we want.

Oh,I see one difference. Ask Mike Ditka what winning a SB does for a coach and his players.

Billick's Career Season Record: 80-64-0 (.555)
Postseason Record: 5-3
Super Bowl Appearances: 1
Super Bowl Wins: 1

Gruden's Career Season Record: 95-81-0 (.540)
Postseason: 5-4
Super Bowl Appearances: 1
Super Bowl Wins: 1

Lovie's Career Season Record: 81-63-0 (.563)
Postseason: 3-3
Super Bowl Appearances: 1
Super Bowl Wins: 0

No real big differences there. Nothing that makes me scream that the first two are largely better than Lovie. I'm looking for more than a marginal improvement.

Billick is the only retread I would really want to see get hired, and that is because he really knows his shit on offense. I think he would be a good fit with Cutler, especially if he brings one of his guys in as an OC. Gruden is very overrated from his time in Tampa. He had some outstanding teams and a great defense down there.

Let me be clear, I'm not outright against the idea of hiring Billick. I just wanted to point out it is simply not a slam dunk that he is the answer. He may not fit into Emery's vision. And as he is the guy who quickly dismissed Lovie...I'm a bigfan of Emery right now.

I completely agree that he would not necessarily be a slam dunk success. I would still rather have one of the coordinators come in...Emery needs to make sure he gets the right fit. He seems like he is truly the first Bears GM that I can remember that may actually be competent enough to make the right hire, with his vision in mind.

Sources say I will be interviewed for the job on Wednesday. I led the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 15-1 season on Madden 13.

Seriously I don't believe Emery has a clue about what he's doing. He just wants his guy. My biggest problem with firing Lovie (since he wasn't a bad coach) was replacing him just for the sake of replacing him. You have to believe the guy you're bringing in will be better. He should have identified that guy PRIOR to firing Lovie.

I personally like Gruden. I think he would be a fan favorite and he knows offense. The defense will take care of itself next year. His issue in Tampa was he couldn't find a QB. That isn't a problem here. He doesn't have to buy the groceries all he has to do is cook the meal. What's likely going to happen is Emery will hire an offensive coach and they will retain Marinelli. That isn't the worst thing in the world.

Yeah, well I'm undefeated in three seasons with 1 BCS title at Kent State in NCAA 13 on All-American if Emery wants to go the college route.

I actually kind of support the idea of panicking and not hiring someone who doesn't fit in with Emery's vision, because Emery's vision includes Marc Trestman. Fuuuuuu....

I read this on CSN's site. So how come there are no viable Black HC candidates on Phil's list?

6 CommentsRSS|Subscribe

CHESSFU1 day ago
I said it once I will say it again. Why no minorities candidates on this list? It's like DA BEARS have had how many white coaches in the last 100+ years? I figure it's more than 9. Lovie was coach for 9 years. So no other minority candidate can even be thrown in the mix? Why? I'm not saying another minority coach NEEDS to be hired. I'm saying it's strange ONE. THERE ISN'T One viable candidate. How many bad white coaches, have we seen only to see another. There is a disconnect from us that actually live in Chicago. And those that ONLY work here. You living in the Northern Burbs doesn't make you a Chicagoan. The same people of that show that don't like Obama, could not wait to jump on Lovie. As well as promote THEIR idea of what a Chicago Bears coach you look like. I have jumped on the bandwagon a refuse to watch the 5:30 show any more. Follow some on twitter yes, but to get guys off the air. You have to hit them in the wallet.
