Well I guess the drive home will now consist of other stations than MVP for a while. Suspension, vacation- time to find something new anyway, show really is getting stale. Too much Harry, too many parodies (neither of which are very funny) and not enough true sports discussions.

All I'm saying is that suspensions like this will continue to occur as long as there are no clear cut ground rules in regard to decency on the radio. I have heard McNeil and many other hosts on both stations take personal shots at people over the years. I'm guessing the difference in this case is that a woman was the target. For some reason, hosts are allowed to call players(clubhouse, dugout), coaches, owners and others a variety of names everyday.

Just make the rules the same for everyone. Well... I guess there would have to be some rules in the first place...

If he's repeatedly calling someone a Bitch, I don't think it's supsension material, but I can understand how his bosses may have gotten itchy.

Funny, North was just talking about Barry Bonds ex-lover who is writing a book and called her a bitch. There's also some soundbite of North saying "bitch", I think in reference to Ozzie (could be wrong) that they play every now and then for humor.

I just don't want to get into possible suspensions anytime someone says something controverial. All that should have happened is management talking to him behind the scenes, maybe a fine if it happens again. Keep it behind closed doors.

The man gets paid to express his opinions, and this was just another opinion about someone involved in the sports business.
When he calls Tank a thug or Grossman a pussy will he get a 3 day suspension as well?

Unfortunately, it's heading down that road where you have to worry about the PC police.

This could have been handled differently. Someone calls complaining about a comment someone made about an employee or wife, etc. should not result in a suspension, according to me. If she's a bitch, then that's the way it is. Have someone work on her personality rather than smacking around people who talk about her. There is probably some history there and she might be bad mouthing Mac to everyone she works with--who knows. This suspension crap has gotten out of hand. If they want everyone to toe the line and not make waves, then they should get all the Dan Patrick clones they can find and pop them on the air and watch the ship sink.

Maybe Mac sent her a picture from his cell phone--that warrants a suspension.

Think he would have been suspended if The Bitch's husband didn't work for the Bears?

what does her bitch loving husband working for the bears have to do with anything?

ESPN doesn't carry bears radio broadcasts.

The fact that they included this preemptive denial makes me think that it has everything to do with it. They may not carry Bears games, but they do cover the Bears and have an interest in keeping the Bear's PR people happy.

A source said Christman's Bears affiliation did not influence WMVP's decision to punish McNeil

Mac can call her a Bitch, but his actions CAN affect the access JD will have to the Bears as well as any media relations requests the station puts in.

Mr. Bitch can make things difficult for other WMVP employees trying to do their jobs.
I'm not saying the susspension is just, but the Bears angle may have been a factor.

I dont know, but I had to play the race card. But yeah, probably. I dont like Mac but he's treated pretty poorly for a guy that brings in ratings and revenue. It's a buisness, he's not a politician.

This has nothing to do with the first Amendment or the FCC. It has to do with appropriate workplace behavior. Which one of us here would be able to use the word "bitch" in our own workplaces aloud to a large group of people, directed at ANY other person and not be reprimanded? Radio guys think that they somehow have a right to say things in their jobs that other people can't say in their jobs. That arrogance is finally catching up with them. What would happen to you if you said the things Mac said to a large group of people? If you can honestly say nothing would happen to you for inappropriate and rude speech in the workplace, then you must work for a bunch of cretins.

Apples & Oranges, Coast.

I would probably be in trouble at my work place if I talked sports for 4 hours. Different jobs come with different expectations.

I disagree, Ivan. Your logic is exactly the kind that radio and broadcasting people have been using for years to justify their inappropriate behavior. It is not apples and oranges. A radio station is a business and on-air personalities are representing their companies. Every company has every right to control the speech of their employees while they are acting as an employee. Being a broadcaster does not come with special privileges and entitlements regarding speech at work. They have a legal right to say anything, but their employer also has a legal right to muzzle them.

Maybe Mac will get to have that reunion with Terry Boers sooner rather than later. Especially seeing as ESPN management has denied Dan's request to do one show with his old radio sidekick aka crusty curmudgeon/troglodyte.

But what is inapropriate, Coast? The definition of what is and isn't acceptable seems to change weekly as far as radio goes. I am not saying that Mac should have said that on the air, my problem is with the constant hypocrisy of management. The station (WMVP) bills the show as "The Last Neighborhood Corner Tavern" and is shocked when Mac calls someone a name. I guarantee this is not the first time a chicago sports radio host (or any other radio host for that matter) has called a woman a bitch on the air.

I'm sure radio personalities would appreciate some guidelines in regard to what is o.k. to say these days....

Personally, I'd rather hear him with North. In any event, I'd be all for the move if he were to head back to WSCR.

Sounds like I haven not missed much since I stopped listening after the "teaching my kid to wack-off" talk. I agree with Mao that this show's time has passed.

I do see your point Coastand I agree to some extent. I fail to see how this is a more egregious offense than some of the other shots hosts make regularly. Would he not have been suspended if he called her a witch instead of a bitch? How is the Jag Bag segment okay?

Maybe he'll think twice about doing this again but it does nothing for the situation now. Trying to keep this all hush hush is stupid. Why not just come out and say he was suspended for the things he said. We apoligize to mrs Bears' PR person for any embarrassment or the opinion of some of our hosts do not reflect the opinion of ESPN blah blah blah.

I've been called a bitch and much worse. Sometimes it applied and when it didn't I came out and said that person was out of line.

You might need to take a deep breath and unclinch a little bit. Are you at all involved in Human Resources where you work...because it seems to me that you are....the department at every company known for making mountains out of mole hills.
The best interest of the employee and employer should be kept in mind when these scenarios arise. This just ends up making everyone look like HUGE asses!

the more this shit happens the more i think about satellite radio.

i heard mac's thoughts on tuesday and i didn't flinch.

but i can deal with listening to carmine the next few days. only thing is, jurko sometimes thinks it's time for him to "drive" the show and he really shouldn't...
