I've heard both Paxson and his head scout state that the Bulls would almost certainly pick up a solid player with the mid-level exception this year. That makes me think that they will use the draft pick for a project type big man such as Hawes who may not play much this year but could replace Wallace down the road.

Bucket...Any ideas as to who would be available as a mid-level type player?

Zippy, if you don’t mind, I’d rather hold off until tomorrow or late tonight. The results of the draft will narrow this down quite a bit, and then we can actually have a fruitful discussion about it. Briefly, though, a few names:

Jamaal Magloire
Chris Mihm
Mikki Moore
Melvin Ely
Joe Smith

Primoz Brezec would’ve been on that list, but like a total schmuck, he exercised a player option that was, in my opinion, less than his value on the open market. The only thing that makes sense is that he could have a lingering injury and would prefer to hit the market next offseason when he’s healthy. Also, watch for Anderson Varejao. Cleveland might let him walk this offseason.

Varejao doesn't make much sense to for the Bulls. He's just another high energy player who doesn't score down low. I like him, but I think he doesn't fit the Bulls. Then again, your list of available FA's doesn't sound too enticing.

Hey, BD, it's not my list. It's the list. These are the chumps that are available, unless of course we S&T later this summer.

Magloire wouldn't be that bad, he did have a couple nice years with the Hornets. Ely might not be bad either. Of course, I don't know if I'd give either the full MLE

I'm not looking for much.
260lbs of ass that can back into the paint, turn around and score 3-4 times per game. Grab 7-8 boards and put a couple of them back in.
You would think this is not that rare of a commodity.

Sweetney has the ass, it's the rest of it that he lacks

I know....just saying that list sucks. I don't think adding of those guys will do much of anything to improve our team. I think a S/T is the obvious course of action, just not sure what Paxson can get for Nocioni and whatever else (if he isn't willing to part with the core).

What injury did Mihm have last year to miss the entire season? Out of the names on the list, he'd be the one with the most upside. As someone else mentioned, Magloire is a much better next year option with good size and has ability to score some buckets and get tons of boards. 6'11" and 260.

Ankle surgery.

And I'm with you, I'd consider taking a flier on Magloire, but I'd want a team option right smack in the middle of that contract. Maybe he returns to his old form, maybe not, but I'd protect myself either way.
