The downside is that one day, even someone like you who would not even consider having any type of weapon, may want or need one for reasons that are unimaginable right now.

I would guess if your family was literally being shot at regularly, you'd get some sort of weapon to protect them

Our country has for hundreds of years when it comes to rights. People said the same things about the Patriot Act. In theory, the Patriot Act makes us safer, but 25 years from now, the very rights given up may be used against us.

The other thing is that I don't believe gun control legislation will ever stop.

The Patriot Act is flat out against everything this country was founded on.

I dont think people who are against it are neccessarily thinking 25 years down the line. Its manifested itself already.

The only time the Patriot Act would come into play against me would be in the worst case scenario too. I have yet to have anything negative happen to me because of it. In reality, I am probably safer because of it so far.

Don't forget the Indefinite Detention Act placed in the 2012 NDAA. This law, among some others, is what you can look at and say, "The Terrorists Won." Maybe not, but is close.

I have shotguns and rifles for hunting purposes, but would never own a semi-automatic weapon unless for the reasons stated above.
