I don't understand this.

Why can't we just give this a shot and see what happens? What does it hurt for our society to cut down on the number of rounds a civilian can pump out in a minute? What is the downside?
The downside is that one day, even someone like you who would not even consider having any type of weapon, may want or need one for reasons that are unimaginable right now.

I would guess if your family was literally being shot at regularly, you'd get some sort of weapon to protect them

Our country has for hundreds of years when it comes to rights. People said the same things about the Patriot Act. In theory, the Patriot Act makes us safer, but 25 years from now, the very rights given up may be used against us.

The other thing is that I don't believe gun control legislation will ever stop.

If I had to pick one up off the ground in this make believe scenario, then sure.

If I never need one for my line of work, I will never own one...

There were a lot of things I used to think I'd never do too.

Things change. There is no guarantee that Americans continue to be spoiled with a relatively safe existence.

The Patriot Act is flat out against everything this country was founded on.

I dont think people who are against it are neccessarily thinking 25 years down the line. Its manifested itself already.

Don't forget the Indefinite Detention Act placed in the 2012 NDAA. This law, among some others, is what you can look at and say, "The Terrorists Won." Maybe not, but is close.

The "OK, I'm lying." thing came off like you didn't like that I pointed out that one day you may find it necessary to own a gun. It read as a "I guess you know me better than I know me" statement.

I have shotguns and rifles for hunting purposes, but would never own a semi-automatic weapon unless for the reasons stated above.

If you looked like "the terrorist profile" you may have a different experience

And who determines what the "Terrorist Profile" is?

The government. It's whatever they say it is.

No, you read it right. But I never said anything about "piling on". I just find the Yes you will/No I won't argument to be pointless so I droped out. Not sure why that came off as self righteous or victim-y. I'm just confident that I know myself better than you do...

It won't be long until the terrorist profile is an argumentative white-middle class Perdue alum.

Exactly. I don't. It's just like I don't fit the profile of a gun owner.

There may come a time when people who don't fit the profile start to be effected by each piece of legislation.

It's because you chose to engage me on my specific comment that people who don't want to own guns now may eventually want to own one and then you seemed to want to quickly end the discussion with me that you started.

I'm just pointing out that you had a problem with my statement so complaining about the fact we are discussing it seems wrong.

HERE'S THE SCENARIO!!!!!!

You go into work on a tuesday and find a ransom note on your computer. Kid Cairo and Laurence Holmes have been taken hostage by a gang of roving insane Samoan fat women. The ONLY thing they want, is for you to forcibally have sex with a chicken in front of them. What do you do?

I guess Im unclear on PittMike's post about not "learning their lesson"

What exactly should be done?

Uh, no. Are you new here? That's not how this place works.

My point was that they all need to rush together and pass something, anything really and then they feel better. I am certain most of what will come out of this will not prevent the next thing like Sandy Hook. So politics as usual I guess is what I am saying.

I'm thinking that any sex with a chicken would be forcible.
