You can blame it all on me.

I know winning cures all but how the hell do you sell this in the locker room and to the fans? I know a lot of his former players rave about him (don't most players like their position coach? Didn't Cutler?) but there was a reason he was out of the NFL for 10 years and it wasn't because he didn't want a job. You can hire a guy like this as a coordinator but you can't hire a guy Henry Burris beat as the head coach in Chicago. I'm sick as hell right now. I'm sure in a few days I'll put a positive spin on this but it's going to be hard.

Prepare to get the "You want the Bears to fail to be right" treatment.

Lovie is chilling in the country club locker room right now, reading the headlines and laughing his ass off in a calm, smug fashion.

That just isn't true.
No, its 100% true. I'm sure SOME people were bitching about Jauron and Lovie. People would bitch about Holmgren, Cowher, or Gruden. People will bitch about McCoy or Bevell or whoever the new coach ends up being.
I didn't realize you meant literally at least two people will bitch about the coach. Sorry.

Two people just in this thread alone, BRichard.

Maybe Emery and Trestman will accidentally run into Lovie at the Senior Bowl.

It will be uncomfortable but later Emery will call Lovie and tell Lovie that he still has some of his old game tapes and a notebook that he left behind and maybe he could stop by and drop them off. One thing will lead to another and Emery will drop Trestman and Lovie can come back to where he belongs.

What are you talking about? I never doubted people would bitch about this hire. It deserves skepticism.

Not really bitching, per se. I was just a Lovie fan and don't see this as an upgrade. If it were an obvious upgrade, I'd have nothing to "bitch" about. This looks like another bad/cheap hire...

All the folks that wanted Lovie gone got what they wanted.

By training camp, Nashova will be in full meatball mode predicting a 13-3 record with the new offense

The Bears just hired a coach that hasn't had a job since Lovie made him his 2nd choice for offensive coordinator in 2004. We all know Lovie doesn't have an eye for a good offensive coordinator. This was always my fear about firing Lovie. IMO the other 2 finalist would have been great hires. This doesn't feel that way.

So, that would seem to be a point in Trestman's favor.

This won't be a hard "I told you so". I have a feeling this could be Terry Shea bad. I would love to be wrong. I really hope I am.

Not at all. Lovie wanted to hire a guy that no NFL or college team has wanted since.

I would love to know what the defensive players honest reaction to this was. Have any of them said anything via social media or interviews yet?

Robert Smith has won (I believe) more state championships in the last 7 years than any other coach has won in the history of this state and he's coached NBA level talent but I don't want him to coach the Bulls. Trestman hasn't coached NFL talent in 10 years. So much has changed since then. I imagine only about 10% of the players are still around.

Everyone but Cutler is probably pissed. Wait until his first 4 interception game and he'll blame Trestman too.

So is your main complaint that nobody wanted him or that he isn't qualified?

Because, I could give a crap if the Jerry Angelos of the world didn't want him since 85% of the GMs in the NFL make crappy hires on a regular basis. My concern is if he's got a handle on NFL defenses.

Good thing the new OC has been in the league for the past 10 years and knows exactly what is going on.

It's a combination of both and the fact he has bounced around his entire career. He doesn't bring "fresh" ideas. He's likely going to tweak everything he's done over the past 30 years. It's been my believe that the Bears have been an average offense away from winning the SB for the past 6 or 7 years and I think the other guys could have made that work next season. It will take him several season to get up to speed IMO.

I really want lovie to get a job and be exposed as the bad coach he is.

How many interviews has he failed at since being fired? Frankly,I'm surprised. I thought he did a decent job here but as his record shows he had problems with the leagues elite teams each season.

I think he interviewed for s.d. and Philly... he could still land in zona or jax.

Here is a question to ponder...would Trestman have accepted an OC job under Lovie if they had kept Lovie but fired Tice, making this shakeup entirely unnecessary since Trestman is going to keep Lovie's defense under Marinelli?

I think what the respected physician is attempting to say is that, if Lovie has a bad eye for OC and he chose another OC over Trestman then Trestman was probably the correct hire.

Good question. And how is it, anyway, that firing Lovie somehow arrives at hiring someone that Lovie would have hired?

Nas, the truth of the situation is that it simply was time to move on from Lovie. The team had stagnated under him. They were also falling farther behind in the area that it clearly will take to win in the current NFL. Firing him and hiring someone else are independant on each other in my opinion.

I wanted Lovie to finish out his contract. He kept the Bears in the hunt every year even with a lot of injuries and very little talent and they never quit on him. Make no mistake I was a fan of Lovie's. There are kids that got a little more help because of my belief in Lovie as a coach (Thanks FF and Doc) but I was okay with the firing. While all the offensive problems were not his fault he had been given many opportunities to fix it and failed. I thought they would get the best available offensive coach because this was the best job available. When I saw that wasn't going to happen I became excited about the other finalists. I figured they would retain Marinelli (which I wanted them to do from Day1) and a modest improvement in offense would have the Bears competing for the SB. That may still happen but I have more confidence in Scorehead than I do in Trestman. He was the guy I wanted least and he is the guy they hired.

I knew that. That's why I countered by say the fact that Lovie considered a guy (Terry Shea and Martz) that no one else wanted is a major red flag.
