even when someone broke the story almost a week ago not a single one of you got a scoop on the Bear hiring

It is fairly evident by the speed in which assistants are being hired that Jimmy Johnson's news was 100% accurate at the time it was reported.

I would praise Biggs for everyday that he doesn't suffer a heart attack.

Agreed, softest media in a major market...they break zero stories.

From the 1/9/2013 B&B thread...

Terry and his guy pretty much kind of nailed it.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, did Terry actually say who Emery's "guy" was?

The answer is NO, so Terry is full of shit.

How many times do we hear when Laurence Holmes is either a guest on the mid-day show or in transition for his own show about some conversation that he had with somebody around the league or a reference to information he has gotten through a source - yet, as somebody who likes to put out there he is a Bears insider, he doesn't know anything other than what is in his twitter timeline.

Sean Jensen deserves some credit - he was the first to report that Bruce Arians was a 3rd candidate, Biggs does a solid job (did he break the actual news of the new hire overnight?), and I think Mulligan has a history of being on top of some stories so not everyone is doing a bad job.

Following this coaching search myself on twitter has been interesting. It's amazing how many times after a report from a national writer about a new interview being requested by the Bears was there a rush of local reporters saying within minutes that there source had confirmed the original report. If it was that easy for their source to confirm information, why not report the information first....unless the term 'source' is used rather loosely by these reporters.

Although Boers/Bernstein claim to know what Emery is thinking or what he's likely to do from their sources, anyone who takes a report from them without any actual concrete information (as Bernstein often says, you have to listen hard to what they are telling you) is an idiot.

and anyone that thinks there has been a serious attempt to show B/B knew anything is also an idiot.

The disturbing part isn't that none of them broke the Trestman story. That seems to be a matter of Trestman throwing a scoop to his old boss and friend. I am troubled that none of the locals could confirm what was obviously a true and correct story. They were still all mystified by the search up until the newspapers were put to publishing last night. Even further, it looks like the Bears were messing with the locals by leaking the confirmation minutes after they knew the papers went to print.

Thats not all bad. With the news of the day, the Sun Times sports cover story of Anthony Rizzo becoming the face of the Cubs goes unnoticed.

Boers was laughing at Jimmy Johnson after his tweet about Trestman the other day.

Too bad Boers is off the next 2 days. You just know that his guy has the Trestman story.

You think? I don't. Trestman had to be looking for the coaches he wanted to bring in. E.g., calling around. Jimmy more likely heard from the assistant coaches murmering to each other.

Sure, the Bears knew when the story was going out. Hell, Biggs and/or Pompeii likely called them beforehand. It worked out well; it wasn't a circus.

Yes. Johnson had both Chudzinski and Trestman. I think he got the story from the horses' mouth.

I agree with that...but doesn't that then raise issues with Trestman's trustworthiness? I have to imagine the Bears asked him not to say anything to anyone other than perhaps his immediate family--and then he goes and tells JJ? Is is that hard to keep a secret for a couple of days?

What does he care if they think he is trustworthy, he was already under contract. This is just a reverse of what the Bears did with the "hiring" of that HC from the Cardinals who ultimately walked away from them.
