That is what I would do. I would take a world tour until August then start putting my name out there in training camps.

I bet that agency group that hired his son is having some misgivings.

Letting him walk away bothers me more than the firing of Lovie and the hiring of Trestman. Knowing that he would be around helped me get on board with firing Lovie. Now the Bears are killing their biggest and most consistent asset over the past 10 years. Last year they even got to the point where they were able to plug in the "next guy" and not miss a beat. They're rankings were great in spite of their terrible offense. Imagine a good offensive team with a defense like the one we were spoiled by?

Do you think Tillman forgets how to punch the ball loose minus marinelli?

Now they have to run a new system. The system was fine.

What do you think of the Bears hiring Lovie as DC?

It's amazing when you consider the offensive production. How many times did the Bears defense set the offense up in perfect scoring position just to see the offense come away with a FG or less? I know the Bears led the NFL in takeaways (you win more game than you lose by doing this) during Lovie's tenure and I imagine they led NFL or are very close in TD's scored by the defense.

Not necessarily, I would like a 3-4...they may wait a year or two until they get the personal. They need...wouldn't. You prefer the Blitzer disguised?

I would prefer to continue seeing the same dominant defense I've seen consistently over the past 10 years. Urlacher was thought to be the main reason why (he was for a while) the defense was so good but last year we saw they could be great without him.

Nick Roach is better currently ...but the system is not horrible...make teams string together long drives to score...problem is good qbs can do it...that is why lovie was 13-40 against teams above. 500...if you want to beat elite qbs you need to pressure n confuse them..not let them pick apart a zone for ten plays.

Last year they were able to get pressure. The Bears lost a lot of game where the defense gave up less than 2 touchdowns. You should win all of those games.

An "awesome" defense would not allow Aaron Rodgers to continually shred it. His stats against the Bears are amazing.

Let's not overstate Lovie's success as a defensive mind in the same way Emery is exaggerating Trestman's success as an offensive "intellect."

In 2004, 2007-09 and 2011 the Bears were average or below average in giving up points and yardage (ranking 13, 16, 16, 21, and 14 respectively during those seasons for points; and 21, 28, 21, 17, 17 for yards over the same period). In five of Lovie's nine seasons, then, the team was far from "dominant" defensively.

Even more to the point how often did the Bear offense give a team plus field position only to have the defense hold them to three? This seemed like a frequent occurance to me

One of the biggest "problems" with the defense was when the O would go 3 and out the whole first half and they'd invariably wear down in the 2nd. Sure there were games they shit down their leg from the get go, but mostly it'd be like the Houston and Seattle games where ToP caught up with them in the end.

In a weird way all those defensive TDs kept them on the field too.

Wow. Is that really Lovies record against teams above 500? Holy crap that is really bad.

Yes sir, that is why I am confident he will fail in his next job...he did not teach anyone how to create a turnover...he just had great players...lets see him tell his next team to strip the ball or get a pick like every other coach in the league n see if they can do it.
I never had faith in Smith to out coach/ scheme anyone. He is not a bright Guy.

How did his Rams defenses do in getting turnovers?

Not sure, but his defense would be ideal with that rams offense always jumping out to quick leads n having teams forced to throw to stay in the game.

In his 3 years in St. Louis, the Rams ranked 9, 22, and 1 in forcing turnovers.

So averaged out to about 11 ...lil bit above average .. pretty much what I thought, n you should be higher when the bad qbs have to sling the ball all game to compete with the greatest show on turf.

So he gets no credit when he has hall of famers getting turnovers with the Bears and he also gets no credit when he takes an extremely average D with shitbags Adam Archuletta, Pisa Tinoisamoa, Jason Seahorn, and DUI machine Leonard Little and gets them to lead the league in TOs. Cool.

Mel Tucker. Done deal. Looks like a great hire. Very impressive staff IMO.

Mel Tucker's defenses' rankings since he's been a DC / assistant head coach, per football outsiders:

2008: 20th
2009: 28th
2010: 32nd
2011: 5th
2012: 28th

And per official NFL yardage stats:

2008: 26th
2009: 23rd
2010: 28th
2011: 6th
2012: 30th

Well, I guess one year out of five is pretty good.

What about takeaways and points scored on defense?

I wish the Bears had hired Mo Tucker instead.

Trestman must be into big strong black men that aren't good at their jobs. I think Marinelli should have been forced (he was under contract) to stay for at least a season. Hell Trestman fires DC's quicker than Lovie fired OC's.

Points
16
24
27
11
29

Turnovers
3
19
30
11
18

Obviously, Tucker hasn't amassed a sterling record. But we should remember that Lovie's defenses were average to bad in 5 of his 9 seasons with the Bears.

Forcing people to work for you that don't want to be there is bad for Trestaman and the organization.
