Stuart Scott desperately attempted to be street with each of the early round selections. Each of them seemed more literate than the googly eyed booyah. I applaud the young players for not giving in to the temptation to be something other than they are, bright, literate and young with a fantastic future.

Agreed. Stuart Scott is one of the biggest reasons I have limited my watching of ESPN in recent years. Joe Theismen was the other but now that hes gone I can actually watch a Sunday night game withthe volume up.

So being "bright, literate and young with a fantastic future" AND "street" are mutually exclusive? I think not.

Stuart Scott's problem isn't that he's "street"--rather, it's that he does a poor job of pretending he's "street".

Several years ago, when working out at a New York Jets mini-camp, a ball launched from a Jugs machine struck him in the eye. It was at this point that he gave up his hopes of being a wide receiver. During SportsCenter broadcasts, he now requires a teleprompter to be placed closer to him. He also wears thicker glasses to help him read the teleprompter

He actually hurt it doing a segment for ESPn at Jets camp in 2002. He was working out with the wideouts and was in front of the Jugs machine and took one straight to the left eye. He had emergency surgery and never really got over the lazy eye.

His eye was poked out during the initiation at Bristol. He was in the process of giving a BJ to the entire yankee and Red Sox roster when Roger Clemens poked it out in George's box.

I think I would disagree with what you think but it would matter on your definition of street. I would include a lack of ability with the language as street, which would exclude literate.

This is what I heard as well. Plus, I think I remember that there was actual video of the accident, but ESPN refused to air it.

They caught some flak since it was news and they have no problems airing accidents of athletes.
