Quite a thing right here. Did you consider keeping this or some other document indicating the same? Interesting piece of history that I find embarrassing and inspiring. It sucked, but he still got the home. That was no small feat. Good for him.

It is a common item that appears on title. It is not enforceable.

I understand that. It doesn't change the fact this "process" was still in place and had to be dealt with in 1960 and overcome.

When I sold my dad's house at Keystone and Devon there was an old restrictive covenant banning a sale to Jews. There was no mention of blacks. I guess the mere idea of blacks moving into Sauganash Park was unthinkable in 1962.

...and now all of those are covenants are unenforceable. Still crazy to think people went to the lengths they did to keep a group out.

I grew up down south, but I have never seen or heard the things you guys speak of. It hurts and pains me, that things like this go on. I read several people's post on here talking about things down south, but I have lived and been around a lot down there and never have seen any of this. I don't live my life that way and as a father would never even dream of a life for him that the color of a person's skin matters, sad!!!

Just because Jeter passed George Brett as my favorite player of all time years ago, doesn't mean I still don't long for the (in)glorious days when CBS owned the Yankees. :P

I realize things are not perfect, far from it. But significant progress has been made.

This is a sports message board, so I'll make a point using sports to make it. In the past few weeks NFL teams have hired 7 new General Managers and 8 new head coaches. Not one of those 15 positions was filled by a Black candidate. Further, in the past 3 years the number of Blacks in key executive positions (including the GM and Head Coaching jobs) in the NFL has declined each year. A lot of people say what you might want to hear, but actions speak louder than words.

Christ, you are dense.

Here is what I think. I think Lovie Smith and Mike Singletary were fired because of lack of results. I couldn't care less what fucking skin color, creed, religion, race, etc my head coach and/or GM was. If the team isn't winning, heads need to roll.

Meanwhile, you could make a strong case for Leslie Frazier to win coach of the year.

There are still intentionally ignorant people like you that actively seek to limit opportunities based on race.

You are correct. Actions speak louder than words. They speak a lot about you.

First off, you shouldn't speak of Christ in such a manner....

Dumb post on a couple levels. One....you have chosen to focus on who was fired and not at all on who was hired. Sure Singletary was fired a couple years ago for good cause. It surely can be argued that Smith's time as head coach in Chicago was appropriately axed. But is it not the case also for all the white coaches that were fired? They all (white or black) left openings, which were all filled by white candidates. In a league where 68% of the players are black, the key management/coaching positions are still predominantly white. And the percentage of blacks in those position in the past 3 years has even diminished.

As far as Leslie Frazier is concerned, I don't see how he really did a lot to help Adrian Peterson. AP was THE reason that was a playoff team. He might finish 3rd or 4th in the voting, no higher.

So you agree that those teams are intentionally passing over qualified black candidates (as some private businesses might) for those positions, due to their preference to hire a white candidate instead. I'm not at all surprised by the preference. I'm just surprised at how the numbers of blacks in these positions is actually in decline as it is. With all the talk of how things have gotten better (in some peoples minds) for blacks, this shows that opportunities for qualified black candidates in the NFL are not granted very often.

I would be interested in Reader's thoughts on modern black culture with regards to family and its effect, positive or negative, on change.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who finds the position that Steve has taken to be an odd one. Steve, you said previously that you wouldn't hire a black guy.

I believe it happens at the lower levels and it has yet to filter up to the highest levels such as GM. It's not a coincidence that the amount of black coaches have started to increase greatly once more of them started getting good assistant coaching positions.

There are still a lot of people out there like you that can limit opportunities for lower level positions. Luckily, there are less of you.

The purpose of the post, was to demonstrate to those that feel that the opportunities for blacks are far greater today might want to re-think their position. Evidence shows that in the NFL that certainly does not appear to be the case. Rather than a trend that shows more blacks in top executive/coaching positions, there has been a decline in the past 3 seasons. There certainly was a time when the trend was to give more opportunities to minorities and the numbers increased. But those days seem to be over and things have reversed.

This was never meant to reflect in any way what hiring practices I might utilize.
