When the book is finally written on this place, and the book is turned into a movie directed by Ang Lee, and nobody goes to see the movie, and another, more mainstream movie is made of the book, and there is a novelization of that movie, and the novelization is adapted for the stage, and the stage play is turned into a rollicking musical, I imagine the Big Mult Number is going to be a real show stopper.

His writing is too busy. He tries to jam too many references into every sentence which makes each individual sentence difficult to read. He's got no flow.

He should actually craft a paragraph that builds on itself and sets up his jokes or the references that he passes off as jokes. It would make it a much easier piece to read.

Just like his craps, I usually give up on his writing about midway through the 2nd paragraph as the whole thing is too manic.

I didn't necessarily think that his writing style struck me as "manic" per say, although I'm coming from a place of being myself and having a "style" that could easily be described as "manic" on a slow day ---- but i'm with you on the forced omnipresence of just about every clever reference that he can muster.

I previously used the term cookie cutter to describe the writing convention he used where it was blah blah blah for a paragraph and then THE POIGNANT STAND ALONE SENTENCE that acted like a veritable typewriter head(?) recoiling after reaching the end of a line.

It's almost like he went out of his way to use that BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH -- one-liner -- BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH -- one liner -- BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH --one-liner -- style to show off to his new ALS over @ BP that he's a PROFESSIONAL WRITER who doesn't merely plop his portly ass on the proverbial barstool that is an open dialog box and just "let'er rip" like us FUCKING AMATEURS DO, oh no, this chicago sports MAN archetype plotted out his whole damn gimmicky format because that's what PROFESSIONAL writers do; they adhere to structures.

whenever i go about my longwinded rants, I basically just sit down with an idea or an argument and just go stream of consciousness and let the tetris blocks fall where they may. If I were writing professionally I'd go back and edit my piece, trimming and toning it down into a properly presentable article structure. When you try to do that vice versa as I presume Mister Buffet did, well, the result is the polished turd that we're all gawking at en masse.

I just can't get over the smarminess of it really.... Seriously, it's like he's in some sort of a secret society / cool kids club and he's trying to patronize them in order to prove to them (read: himself) that he belongs amongst their ranks. Suffice to say, I don't think the guy would really mesh too well with the SABR crowd; like I said before, check out baseballprimer.com if you wanna see how those guys roll. They're usually pretty cool guys whose geekiness isn't wielded like a righteous scythe of self-validation; this is why the revelation in the last ~8-10 replies that the dude is a fattycaeks is FAR from a surprise to me.

Now I'm going to go to the bar and talk to some women.

Congrats. The fact that you consider Fahrenheit 451 to be within spitting distance of the canon makes you barely literate.

And yeah, that was bad writing. And he teaches English! The most unbelievable part for me--though it won't be for people who aren't familiar with him--is that there's no way a longtime Bernstein clone is "just coming around" on statistical analysis in baseball. Don't give me this left-brain-right-brain shit; you just don't sit around writing nerdy purple-prosey crap for years and all the while hold true to the primacy of old men studying high school boys.

Tim Baffoe likes an article on CBS Local.

Baffoe: I Am Jay Cutler - CBS Chicago
“He’s so serious all the time.” “When was the last time you saw him smile?” “He’s, like, really smart but never happy.” “Everything from him is either a one word answer or a snarky comment.”

Im sure people come away from his terrible columns and jokes with the thought "He's, like, really smart but never happy"

I slipped up and read the column because it wasn't posted here. I felt bad about giving him the pageview.

I just want to repeat how distasteful I find the whole "kids need to know they're not special" thing to be. Kids need to know that they're as mundane as they are unique, in the sense that many of their tribulations are not theirs alone, that they're not the first nor last to go through the messy parts of growing up, but "you're not special like your little mommy and daddy told you" is just worthless demoralization to me. When I think of the numerous important, influential teachers in my life, none of them are held in that regard because they told me I wasn't special.

Right, and a lot of idiots seized on that guy's commencement speech this past graduation season where he said, "none of you are special" and missed that the entire point of the speech was that they are all special.

I always love the "honest money" line. Cracks me up every time. Selling Pepsi is honest but selling weed isn't. Ok.
