- The planned main event for WrestleMania 29 is John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE Title, made clear at last night's Royal Rumble pay-per-view after Cena won the Rumble and Rock won the WWE Title from CM Punk. This has been the planned direction for a few months and has been listed as the main event in documents given to WWE's licensing partners.

- This hasn't been confirmed but a number of people within WWE on the production side believe that WWE and Bruno Sammartino have agreed on a deal to have him inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. The deal may include something to where Bruno doesn't have to interact with Vince McMahon at all. Bruno has stated in the past that he would not be inducted as long as Vince around. Triple H has been the working on getting a deal signed with Bruno.

-Chris Jericho has signed a new short-term deal with WWE and will be working for the company full-time through Wrestlemania 29, according to multiple sources. The two sides quietly came to a deal a few weeks ago I am told.
WWE has put a video online with Jericho and Dolph Ziggler going back and forth, so that appears to be the direction they are going in with him.

-As we broke on Sunday in the PWInsider Elite section, WWE and Brock Lesnar have come to terms for a new two year deal. Lesnar will be locked in to the company through Wrestlemania 31.
Lesnar's current existing deal was set to expire at Wrestlemania 29.

LOTS OF BACKSTAGE NOTES FROM ROYAL RUMBLE
By Mike Johnson on 2013-01-27 22:02:10
Chris Jericho was hidden until his entrance in the Royal Rumble in a bus parked outside the Arena. The word backstage was that a deal was quietly made for him to work the show when the company reached out to him for Raw 1000. No word yet on his long-term status with the company, but wow, he was great. The company wants him back but Jericho doesn't want to relinquish control of his outside endeavors. He does have a new Syfy series debuting this year, so him returning for even a short run could be a way for WWE to cross-promote it.
As we noted earlier in the PWInsider.com Elite section earlier, former WWE World champion Mark Henry is backstage at the Rumble. There were plans in place for him to return tonight but that obviously did not happen. This PPV was the first one he's been brought in for in a long time, since he was hurt.

Ted DiBiase is backstage and slated to return from an injury anytime.

As we noted earlier this weekend in the Elite section, Shelton Benjamin and Carlito were at the WWE's hotel and were expected to be in the Rumble. As it turns out, they just ended up booked at the same hotel WWE was using while in town for an indy show. There had been talk of using Carlito since he visited at Raw 20th Anniversary. There were some in the company unhappy, however, with him taking shots at CM Punk online, which soured certain people on using him. In the case of Benjamin, he requested and received a ROH contract release last month after there was interest shown in him by WWE, so that issue isn't dead. His name has come up a lot internally in discussions of names the company could bring back to fill out cards and have good matches.

Godfather quietly drove in from Las Vegas in an attempt to hide his appearance from fans stalking the airports. He arrived this afternoon, checked into the WWE hotel, then headed for the Arena.

Chris Masters was also visiting with the WWE crew over the weekend.

How hilarious would it be if Rock fails a wellness test?

Dolph and Jericho could be fun, but how will that play with him having the MITB deal?

Just reading, may have Ziggler-Jericho to Elimination CHamber, then Jericho could move to Ryback for Mania.

I would much rather see a Lesnar/Ryback matchup. Lesnar could cleanly kick the crap out of Ryback and it would be glorious.

Can I say with doing a Cena-Rock, that doesn't make me want Mania like I did last year, I can't see Cena losing this match, the thing I would do to throw people would be have Cena finally go heel.

Do we get Punk-Taker, I don't know, but listening to the LAW last night, they thought Punk could promo as my streak ended, so I will end another streak.

I will say having Lesnar back helps, would not put him against Triple H at Mania, another one where I can't see Triple H losing.

They already did Lesnar Goldberg. People didn't like it...

They should give Ryback a partner and take on the Shield at Mania. 2 on 3.

I will ask, when Ziggler did his promo and said about Merging the titles if he won the rumble, along with Money in the Bank, are they thinking of doing this.

I also read they will debut a new title tonight, possibly.

I don't believe in this WWE like the one ten plus years ago (go figure, i originated "board better two years ago"). There is still just too much money to be made off of Cena as a face with kids. I would be very risky from a business standpoint to turn him heel. With that said...

from a storyline perspective it would be a great move. Cena and Rock both head into WM as faces and while not a fan of triple threat matches, maybe Punk is in the match as well because Taker is not healthy for Mania. Triple Threat, No DQ match. Close match throughout. The Shield comes out at some point, throws a quick punch on Cena and throws him out of the ring. Hurts referee and throws him out. Starts brutally attacking the Rock, Punk nods in approval. Punk points to bring ref in for count. Shield obliges. He goes for the cover on Rock, but gets blocked by a Shield member. Punk and Shield argue a bit. Cena waiting behind him. AA on Punk. Rock is up, starts his own 'hulking up' and battling Shield members. Cena now directing traffic, asking for Rollins to get a chair. Cena and Rock tangle. Rollins chair shot. Cena pin. Rock kicks out at 2.9 (also ever notice how Cena is horrible at kicking out on a late 2?). Punk comes in and now Punk and Rock start working together. Eventually numbers game beginning to wear out Rock and Punk. Cena continues directing traffic, dirty moves, chair shots. Rock is laid out. All shield members are laid out. Punk and Cena remain in ring. Back and forth. Some type of Hogan-Warrior clothesline happens on each other. Heyman runs into the ring to check on Punk. As he is talking to Punk, he slides brass knuckles to Cena. Heyman gets Punk back up, goes to get the referee up and moving, Cena nails Punk with brass knucks, gets three count. Cena, Shield and Heyman end up celebrating together.

Raw would reveal Cena and Heyman were behind the Shield the whole time. Heyman approached Cena not too much after Cena defeated Brock as Heyman realized Brock wasn't what he once was. While Heyman liked and respected Punk as a wrestler, Cena is the ultimatem meal ticket. He explains almost every reason why he had the Shield attack certain people. It all starts to make sense. He disliked Ryback and his quick rise. He thought keeping the belt on Punk was the way to go. We find out he didn't want to face the Rock at Mania again which is why he had The Shield attack Rock at the Rumble. That plan failed obviously. Yada, yada. I think it could make for some good viewing...

That's outstanding.

But it'll never happen.

I like it too, but more than likely won't happen.

I think they should try a heel Cena run, they did it with Austin against the Rock at Mania.

But Hunter is due for a win against Lesnar. Unless they do an angle where Lesnar is fired if HHH beats him at Mania. Somehow, he wins again, and it starts a corporation type angle.

I've long wanted a Cena heel turn as well. But there's a problem. If he isn't into it, the turn will fail miserably. Stone Cold's turn was referenced. He did want to turn heel and it still didn't work from a heel standpoint. It led to some great television, but he wasn't the number one heel.

That's good stuff. If he ever goes heel, its has to be monumental like the nwo hogan heel turn at least and Mania main event suits it. No Raw angle bs.

He's also 7-9 at Wrestlemania. I still find it funny that no one dare gives shit about Undertaker being fucking Superman. I am in the minority on this. I think he puts on some fantastic matches, no doubt. However, I just am not big on this whole streak thing. I think he should not remain undefeated. That is not how the wrestling business works. You leave the business with your shoulders on the mat. If he remains undefeated then I believe it to be more ridiculous than John Cena being the perceived Superman of the company. Whether you like him or hate him, his work rate I believe has been pretty much outmatched over the last ten years. I could be wrong. I just get sick of reading the Cena and H constant bashing and Taker id never questioned.

Yep.

No one is bigger than the business.

His last Mania match should be used to put someone over and make them a legend.

And maybe that is exactly why he hasn't put someone over in that event yet. Every year they don't do it, it makes it that much bigger. Looking at the roster, I'm not exactly sure who you allow to do that. you could let CM Punk do it to cement his legacy, but the 400+ days as champ should be enough ad how much more of a bump would he really get? Sheamus may already be too established at this point too. At the same time you have to pick someone who is oozing with potential and has some decent cred or then Taker ends up losing to someone far lesser than him and that really doesn't work either. Every year the candidate list changes as it makes less sense for certain guys to win that match. I'm sure I will be ridiculed for my list below, but right now I feel like these are the only guys that could make something of that win and have it come off legitimate:

Damien Sandow (which I think would elevate and reinforce his character to new heights. I think he has main event worthiness)
Dolph Ziggler

I got nothing else, and I'm not even convinced of my candidates.

Damien Sandow (which I think would elevate and reinforce his character to new heights. I think he has main event worthiness)
Dolph Ziggler

I got nothing else, and I'm not even convinced of my candidates.

I see your two and add
Wade Barrett
Jack Swagger

Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done.

Hey,every time this subject comes up I promote Swagger. I am consistent with that.
I really think they are messing up not pushing him, give him a manager and let him fly.

Swagger is barely above Hornswoggle.

He will be wished well in his future endeavors soon.

The undertaker's health/physical condition is still in question. Which is why he hasn't been seen or heared from, and puts in question his mania status and what to do with cm punk

Good stuff Woodridge Ryan. I have been one of the few defenders of HHH around here over the years. To hear some people talk you would think he was 30-0 at big shows. People always talk as if he has never put anyone over, which is completely false.

I believe I'm included in that few. It's starting with the Super Cena stuff again as well. He just stood in the ring and said he lost his last SIX matches to CM Punk, and jobbed to The Rock.
