To be fair, they caught a couple of those guys last year. And if it was a conspiracy, then no way would they have caught Melky because he was on an MVP like season. Same thing with Braun. There is no doubt that the chemists are ahead of the tests, but clearly, the tests are nabbing some high profile bad actors.

Penalties. Not tough enough...first offense should be two year ban...second is lifetime.

That's the problem with the penalties for those who use PEDs in MLB. They're not that strict.

Screw the ban. What they should do is put a salary cap on players who have found to use PED. First time caught, cap your future earnings at $5M/yr. 2nd/ $1M/yr. 3rd/$250K.

I think baseball has done a pretty good job of getting PEDs out of the game. They nailed Colon and Melky and if you look at the offensive stats it's obvious PEDs are disappearing. As to penalties, they should be more harsh for sure.

ARoid has permenantly disgraced himself and eliminated himself from HOF consideration as well. Fuck him and his money. I hope the NYY find a way to void that contract although based on what I've read, it seems doubtful. The Yankees were stupid as hell giving him that second contract so they get what they deserve in owing him another 114M through 2017.

Fuck them.

i honestly don't care about PEDs at this juncture. if guys wanna shave years off of their life and shrink their dicks to add a few MPH to their fastball and/or go from prospect to zero to .260/30/80 (nelson cruz) then like, go ahead... make my day. i can't see myself having an irrational hatred of gio gonzalez from here on out cuz he ruined the sanctity of a game whose mantra was long known as "if you're not cheating you're not trying"

ahem. yeah i'll be touting vlad as clean, even tho i confess sterr=oids don't matter to me that much. if anything, they made fantasy baseball more interesting since you were able to grab random people get get herculean #s out of nowhere.... and for the record, the only smoke i ever saw with vlad was that some trainer in the dominican that he, among many other dominicans, was associated with had been associated with some investigation into PEDs. nothing came of it, however, i do have faith in baseball's old boy network to eventually out him if indeed he did commit to the needle. my favorite instance of baseball's old boy network was when sammy came out of nowhere circa 08-09 and gave an interview talking about how he's clean, he's always been clean, he never failed a test, so he's gonna kick back and wait for his call from the hall..... and then a week later it's leaked that sammy was one of the "anonymous" positives from the investigatory early MLB PED tests in 2003.

baseball has a way of doing things like that in such a way that you KNOW that like, while football is WHAT'S NOW? according to ESPN and all that.... baseball, moreso than any other sport in america, has roots that nothing else can touch.

I wonder what guys like Willie Mays,Hank Aaron,Sandy Koufax and Ferguson Jenkins would do on PED's. Funny thing is,the pitchers taking this stuff still can't rack up the complete games and IP those old time pitchers did. Hitting is a different story. As soon as I heard this story,my first thought was if the Cubs could get Arod at some bargain basement price. I'm always thinking of the Cubs first. I think the contracts should be voided. those guys would roughly do what the top pitchers/hitters of this era are doing. moreso than any of the other major american sports, baseball lends itself to romanticism and legend in terms of the rosy colored glasses we look back on the players from the past with. it's easy to think of PEDs as being as black and white as popeye pre/post spinach, but at the same time when the PEDs have proliferated throughout the league so pervasively, we have no idea how much of these players' competition would be using the juice, so to a pretty large extent it would balance itself out.

i have no idea what the aggregate HR/power totals are nowadays compared to them, nor do i know what the average ERA/WHIP/K-RATE was back then compared to now.... but like, while it's fun to think of a bonafide great like willie mays getting all roided up and turning into superman on the competition.... the odds are that if willie mays is juicing, god knows how many people he's playing against (i'd assume a majority) are also juicing, so really, it kind of becomes immaterial after awhile.

PEDs are the ultimate "have your cake and eat it too" situation in baseball. without any giant super formal studies of players en masse using them (given their legality and consequent secrecy) we don't know just how much they affect player A versus player B and etc, it's just like, when we have a super-herculean giant veritable-cyborg superdouche type in iddqd and hit enter (god mode in doom) and start hitting .320 with 70+ HRs or .350 with 45+ HRs while walking 175+ times a year, damn, it sucks to see such a piece of shit (ask ron kittle) rise up and literally HULK SMASH the old records that we hold so near and dear to our hearts and souls.
