Much ado about nothing imo. What's next, making the hidden ball trick illegal? The double switch?

Anyone stupid enough to get picked off on that move didn't deserve the lucky hit (or cheap walk) he got to get there.

I totally agree, what about the deception part of it that was being discussed?

Put it this way, I learned how to throw a Vaseline ball at about 14-15 yrs. old.  (Hey, I had a less than strong arm  ) While I never taught it to anyone else....well, anyone gifted in the baseball art of deception should just rightfully be called "crafty". And then promoted.

Like the old Oakland Raiders said: "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'".

"Deception" is something bitched about by parents with kids on the losing end imo.

Fuck if I know(or care).

Maybe it reminded them a little too much of their own, um...shortcomings?

I'd think if you are against this rule change, then you are against the balk premise in general. It is deception of the runner. I'd actually consider a baseball world where the balk was made legal, but since it is illegal, this change only seems to further the cause.

That would make for a nice 7 hour game

Actually, this matters less than ever what with the stolen base going out of style.

I agree. If you really want to speed up the game, make the batter get in the fucking box and make the pitcher throw the ball. Limit the times Joe Mauer and Ivan Rodriguez can walk out to the mound.

But I've never heard anyone who likes baseball complain about the games being "too long". A real fan wants the game to go on forever. I don't think they should change the rules to satisfy a bunch of people who really don't give a fuck at the expense of those who do. If you do that you end up with the Hambletonian.

all they gotta do is start calling the "real" strike zone.

This is a good rule change.

The move (as I know it) involves the pitcher moving towards third and then turning around and throwing to first. If you move towards a base and don't throw, it's a balk, so why shouldn't it be in this case too?

That's not necessarily true, you can fake to 2nd or 3rd and it is not a balk.

True, that would definitely speed things up. You might have more than one guy striking out 300 times.

Well that's dumb.

Makes those balks too.

I have a nasty habit of hitting reply before I read the rest of the posts I've missed. :(

You missed my edit the otherday, Hawg Jr. was asking me the other day if you were going to be at the Bulls game. He wanted to know if you and Castro still have your bromance. :D
