Just open a window. It's 61 outside.

You probably had some leftover December air in there. It needs a good flushing each month to make room for that new month's air. Since you chose not to have that maintenance performed, you now need a whole new system.

We had a problem with our "high efficiency" furnace...which as far as I can tell means expensive to fix. One of the blowers was kicking on and off repeatedly. The repairman said we needed a new circuit board for $500. I looked on-line and noticed this type of problem was common with digital thermostats. I replaced it with one of those old-fashioned round mechanical units for around $25 and the problem went away.

That's a great story. It just shows you don't believe everything you hear. "Expert" opinions might have another motive.

Ask to see the crack in the heat exchanger and how they found it.

They showed me on the camera and you could also see the flame going forward and backward like a wind was blowing in it. I'd be more skeptical if this thing wasn't from 1989.

Hey Darkside, do you expect a tip when you finish installing one of these things or is the joy on the customers face reward enough?

Sometimes I'll get a tip. Maybe 1 of 5 or so installs.
I should have taken a picture of the furnace I pulled out today... 3 of 4 cells had 6 inch long cracks that were close to 1/8th of an inch wide. I'm surprised no one died. It was one of those plant install deals, so maybe they're used to CO.
